I would think at the least 2x week would be necessary for your child. Are you opposed to a pull out for your child or did the school not offer it? If I were you I would read the fine print of the eval the OT did. The report should have listed the specific weaknesses--not just the broad language you gave us. Use this info. for the weaknesses for the PLOP to write O/T goals. When you get the goals, you could post them to us and we could give you feedback. You're going to be overwhelmed with it all and the other area of concern is how progress will be measured. You really want more than the O/T's subjective observations as a measurement of progress. I would also tell you to have it in the iep that you get the raw notes of the O/T's notes for your child's sessions versus the minuscule tidbits they may or may not give you. >
Guest guest
Yeme, twice a week would be good. My son got OT privately, and I guess it was about an hour a week, the first few visits. Later it was 2 weeks between. Eventually once a month. This was spread out over around a year and a half.... (He's 21 now, this was way back in 6th grade, so don't count 100% on my memory!) He was receiving OT to help with his writing legibility, though they did work exercises with him that worked on the " whole body " and helped him overall. You could see how 30 min/week helps, call a meeting in 6 weeks to see how they think he is progressing? Quick thoughts, > > Greeting all, > > The School district completed OT evaluation on my 8 yrs old son who is >  diagnosed with HFA. Guest guest
Thanks I really appreciate your quick thoughts. Especially regarding calling a meeting in six weeks to assess progress. It is so comforting to have this forum to learn from the experience of others. Thank you for taking the time to share yours. Blessings to you and yours, Yeme From: <@...> Sent: Tue, December 14, 2010 1:04:40 PMSubject: ( ) Re: OT eval Yeme, twice a week would be good. Guest guest
I would request that the data be sent home weekly or monthly. This will show what is being done by everyone on the team and also, how well it's working. They should be taking data anyway (but often don't bother!) so this should be a minor request to get copies sent home. Later, if you feel this is not enough, you can use the data that is sent home and lack of progress towards the goals to back up your request for more services/supports as you originally wanted. Definite difference was noted in sensory processing and school factors. the area of deficit fell in the area of fine motor specifically manual dexterity and organization - overall test ranking 25 %. The following are the services offered. OT will be responsible for current attending and organization goals OT will push in 30 minutes weekly We asked that OT push in three times a week but no less than 2, they stated that the goals would be worked on by all members of the team and addressed daily through general education modifications and accommodations. This is all a very new process for us as our son was just diagnosed this past Summer. WE are concerned what they are offering will not make a huge difference. We would really appreciate any advice. Thanks, Yeme
Guest guest
Well, if the OT comes in twice a week and the teachers and aides are given the current info on what the OT is putting in place, you should be able to get a copy of it so that you are supporting it at home too. It doesn't mean you have to change everything, but if you know what is happening you can give positive reinforcement for things where if you didn't know you might not notice or think it is just some weird thing your child is trying. The OT for my son sent a sheet home each time she was in (She mailed it when we were having issues with things making it home from school) Then we would reinforce the current thing at home too.
