What is the connection?

Dear Barbara, I read your latest post about your exposure and illness. What do you think is the connection between your exposure to toxic molds and subsequently developing fibromyalgia? Can you walk me through it? , Here is my theory - for what it is worth. In my case, the exposure came when I was coping with an injury that required surgical repair and pregnancy. Exposure to the toxins produced by this group of molds can cause your immune system to become extremely depressed. Perhaps these organisms are capable of manipulating our biochemistry in some way in order to survive and be fed like the candida yeast does. So, say we are affected and begin to slowly crave more and more carbs which in turn feeds the yeast - it won't be long before we are overwhelmed by the yeast growth. Perhaps some of our members who understand hypoglycemia could jump in here and explain it better but I do know this, people who have developed fibro actually begin to improve when they take guaifenesin. Initially, the symptoms are worsened, but they begin to clear the deposits that cause pain out because the guai allows the kidneys to function properly and deplete the excess phosphate. Hopefully, I didn't garble that too much but you basically go from exposure to sickness and stress, to immune depression to illness (in my case, fibro). This may be one factor in why one person is severely sickened and the person in the next office shows few, if any symptoms. Now, if we could just develop a few tests to make early detection possible, perhaps there wouldn't be millions of people seeking disability. Barbara
