Guest guest
Is he going to meet another parent? I would talk to the airline. They often let kids travel alone and the air personnel keep tabs on them. Find out what kind of help the airline will provide/can provide for a fee. That might ease your mind a lot. Have the other parent or person at the other end meet him at the gate. Get him a cell phone so he can call or text you. This will ease both your minds. I tried to fight it and I am appealing since he cannot do daily tasks like nuerotypical and when stressed he cannot communicate appropiately. I am not sure how to put all this into words for court. Guest guest
My ex wanted to put our 10 year old on a flight with 2 connections. told him he was out of his mind and was going to take him to court over it. NO way I'd do this. Now, maybe a 2 hour straight connection, and he has a cell phone, I might do. Tracey In a message dated 8/25/2010 8:01:24 A.M. Guest guest
While it might not help on the actual plane ride, I think that they make the person meeting the unaccompanied minor show id and sign for them when they exit the plane. I have seen this several times while waiting for flights. (Not sure how they get through security without a boarding pass, but there must be a way, since the sign-off seems to be required; the flight attendant does not just let the child wander off in the airport like they did when I was a little kid flying alone). Good luck, Bridget > > > Is he going to meet another parent? > > I would talk to the airline. They often let kids travel alone and the air personnel keep tabs on them. Guest guest
As a travel agent... Though some rules have changed they will not allow unaccompanied minors under a certain age on a connecting flight. I think it's 10. If you look up unaccompanied minors on airline web site they will have all restrictions. But on the flight they are on there on since attendant has a job to do they are only responsible that they are received and given to the right people. Tell the ex to look it up and call airline about his dx Wanzor
Guest guest
I have Aspergers and I had to fly alone at ages 15 and 17. I did end up missing a flight due to getting distracted for an hour at the hub airport and had to spend the night on a seat in the transit lounge without my checked luggage. That was before cell phones so my parents didn't even find out about it until later. Actually, I'm not sure it would have occurred to me to call them. I got the next flight out in the morning and someone was there to pick me up, so everything turned out OK. Many years later I was in an airport on standby for 25 hours waiting for on open seat, so the experience came in handy. The best thing would be a checklist/timetable. We Aspies are notorious for 'going by the book', so all he needs is the right 'book', and instructions as to what to do when he can't go by it, such as "ask the airline representative if you have time before the plane leaves to go to the bathroom."<<We are suppose to allow our soon to be 15 yo on airplane alone to another state. I tried to fight it and I am appealing since he cannot do daily tasks like nuerotypical and when stressed he cannot communicate appropriately. I am not sure how to put all this into words for court. He also is ADHD with sensory and needs someone who understands these issues to travel with him.>>

Guest guest
Dear Robin: Glad it all turned out well. I remember I spent a whole night after a Sail Boat Race, to Put-In-Bay Ohio on a park bench because I could not remember, was not told to remember, which was the last boat I steped off and on to the Dock. It was dark. I was tired. My lack of remembering may have been added to because of lack of enough food and drink, and too much sun. With the one beer I had before I tried to go back to my boat, could have got me put in jail for public Intoxicant. Blow real high on the DWI meter with no food just one beer, in a state park. I survived. I did not like at the time, but I survived. I remember A protest trip to Washington. The First Gulf War. The three other Adults acted like kids. They ended driving the fastest they could in a snow storm in my personal car. All the other three were graduated Collige Kids with no dependabul car. I do not know how we stayed on the road and got home, in the Snow Storm. I wanted to kill them all or at least leave them at a Ohio Trurnpike reststop. It took me days to calm down. There is a movie called "Unaccompanied Minors", that might be interesting. All the kids act out in a big way. The keepers try to "jail" them but they do not stay jailed. It might be an intresting movie twenty years on. Laugh at the NT's? T.
