To put a long story short I am an Australian dentist with a very good private job in Australia. My fiancee would like me to move to the UK for 2 yrs after we married so we we can settle down before we move back to Australia. Therefore, if I want to work in the UK I need to pass the ORE exam as I am a recent graduate. So 1. Do you think its worth me moving to the UK and doing my ORE exam as I intend to only live there for 2 yrs max. 2. How much study and how long do you think it takes on average to pass the exams.. Like am I looking at months or years? 3. If I was to get some private work in the UK, what sort of salary would I be looking at. Please any help would be very very very greatly appreciated. I have just heard so much bad news about the ORE so I am really wondering what to do. And as you guys are doing the ORE any guidance will be very sort after!! Thanks once again.. Guest guest
Thanks and Dr Dilip. Well in Australia its either you work in a private clinic (around 90% of dentists are private) or you work for the government. A private dentist should make anywhere between 7 to 10K per month (pounds) esp if he/she has been at their practice for a couple of yrs.. Guest guest
Hi, Answers to your question are 1. Do you think its worth me moving to the UK and doing my ORE exam as I intend to only live there for 2 yrs max. this is such a pesonal question to answer.it all depends on the situations you are in. I go with above. But I guess clearing ore will license you to practise in your country if you havent recieved one. > 2. How much study and how long do you think it takes on average to pass the exams.. If you clear the exam in one attempt it will take a year since GDC keeps the exam twice once in july-aug and then in sept - oct .You can attempt part 2 after you clear part1 so ayear is gone in that> 3. If I was to get some private work in the UK, what sort of salary would I be looking at. starting from 4000 and it may go up till 6000 pounds Yeah for a starter Is it really difficult to clear ADCexams ?Do you know any good training centre for overseas dentist? Is there any easy way to get into practise or any alternative? Guest guest
hey samantha, well, if ur opting to be in UK for 2 yrs time, its better u try nd obtain a temporary regn, for which you dont have to clear ORE. you can then take up some sho posts which could help you out with your living. another alternative that u hav is to utillise the time for a masters if u hav the funding. but that requires a cpl of years clinical experience. but u can contact individual unuversities, some might give u a waiver. good luck with ur venture.regardsthahaFrom: Dilip Pathak <drdilipbds@...> Sent: Mon, May 31, 2010 2:28:48 PMSubject: Re: Re: Need some advice PLEASE Hi, Answers to your question are 1. Guest guest
My 11 yr old dd has started middle school. Along with Aspergers she has attachment issues,RAD. One of the rules at school is they can get in their lockers at certain times of the day, therefore instead of carrying their music instrument from class to class they also are assigned a locker in the band room where they can take the instrument before the class day starts. We are in the second week of school and she has had band 4 times and each time she is sticking her flute in her hall locker and not taking it to the band room. My dh, myself and her first period teacher have all told her how this can be done without the worry of being late for her first class. In fact it has been discribed to her in great detail after the first two times of failing to do so. We have done everything under the sun other then going to school and helping her do it. I know this seems like such a trivial thing, but what I would like advice on is, am I missing something? Are we not saying something right when we are trying to find why she is not wanting to do it the way the teachers are requesting her to do it? We are just trying to figure out if she is fearing something, doesn't understand something, or does she just simply like to have her flute with her? Guest guest
Hi- We have been going through similar stuff. Mine just began middle school too. He won't even do band anymore b/c he fears it will interfere with his downtime (study hall period), classtime ( he heard they miss classtime 1x a week for band) and afterschool chilltime. We have tried to reason with him- relentlessly. He is stuck in this mindset for now and isn't ready to hear anything else. So, I am hoping that once he settles into middle school and gets over the anxiety of the transition , he will be open to hear us out. When he gets intense like this, it's really hard to reason with him. Just gotta wait it out * unless it's effecting his safety, etc*We have been through this before and he does usually come around. Luckily it comes easy to him, so if he misses a practice or two or five, he'll catch up. Mine is also very very worried about being tardy and is not thinking rationally b/c of this. As far as your daughter, what's RAD? She might just be so nervous about messing up and not being in control of her instrument or the change in routine. Can she arrive @ school a little early a few days to put it in the band locker and then start the day? Maybe if you guys discuss it in a way that putting it in the band locker is her idea or her choice, she'd be more into it. Or let her walk around with it..let it be..at least a flute is small and eventually she'll forget it in class or it'll become a pain and she'll realize there are options. Just some thoughts. Good luck. Although he has made an INCREDIBLE transition to middle school...there are PLENTY of issues and kinks to work out. For example, mine now starts getting ready for bed @ 7:30 so he can be in bed @ 8pm to get his required X amount of sleep he wants to be able to get up..have an hour of chill time and be @ bus stop @ 7 am. He hasn't been to Boy Scouts in 2 weeks b/c of this and it's cutting into other evening stuff too. Susie > > My 11 yr old dd has started middle school.
