Guest guest
>>But beside that he suffers from verbal en motor tics, especially now in the spring (because of the pollens) A glutenfree diet helped a lot - till now. He's ticcing terribly, and also his asthma has returned. At my house, most tics and asthma were related to yeast overgrowth. Some asthma was caused by food intolerances. Guest guest
Hi back and welcome....it is nice to hear another point of view on computers and games...all I ever hear is ...that is all he wants to do ...etc. etc. And, yes, I agree but it is not just my son and it is not just all AS kids ...it a lot of other kids. Right now he has his 16 year old friend over (he is sort of a loner) and they are playing a car race game and they can play for hours. I must say now that we have put my son on Geodon....he is not up till 2 ,3 or 4 am ...like last summer. He usually goes to be at 10pm and sometimes earlier. We do go to the Swimpark we joined...and he and his TSS have been throwing the football or basketball or baseball. The sad thing is that my son is good at chess, good with the guitar, good at swimming, good with the drums....but he gives them up after a while. He gets bored. I am hoping once he gets into hs...he will join the swim team...or maybe try golf...he has a good swing. He does have a lot going for him ...he just doesn't stick with it. And, you can make them. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I can't tell you how worried I am and actually have made myself sick over this. jan Janice Rushen "I will try to be open to all avenues of wisdom and hope"From: marypetrovic <marypetrovic>Subject: Re: ( ) New Date: Monday, July 20, 2009, 2:51 PM Thank you! I agree, my daughter is extremely smart, and the computer is definitely something she is comfortable with, she has friends on the computer and can act anyway she wants to act without the fear of being made fun of. The downfall is that this is the only thing she wants to do. I want her to be albe to interact at family functions and to do things like read books, go for walks outside, and things like that. But when I let her have all the time she wants on the computer, that is the only thing she wants to do. I can't get her to do anything else. I'm hoping by restricting her time she'll be able to explores other things and be able to be socially active with at the least her family.I've always thought that since my daughter is technologically inclined on the computer that she will grow up to have a wonderful job that she loves, by doing something with computers. I do think her speding time on the computer definitely has its advantages too.Again, thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it! >> > > Hi, > > I think that you daughter is very smart and she will be very successful if you guide her computers skills positively > > > I am an IT person and addicted to computers also . I joined on-line support groups a long time ago, but life got busy and I know longer stayed joined. I have been having a lot of hard times lately, trying to figure out what is best for my daughter, and I constantly find myself at a loss. She is addicted to the computer, has no friends, and wants to do nothing but play on her computer. I'm worried, I want her to go and do things and spend time with me and our family. She is the only child, I am divorced and she doesn't see her father. We have a small family and most of them are not very supportive. I have a wonderful boyfriend who treats her wonderfully. But I am at a loss on what to do to fill her time so she isn't on the computer as much. Any help would be greatly appreciated. > I am really looking forward to being back on this support group!>

Guest guest
At least now you know why your child behaves differently from others sometimes, when we realised our son was Aspie I read and read until my eyes hurt. The books didn't really give any practical help, but this group does, its great to be able to ask others that are actually living through the same things.Even if no one can help, its good to know you are not alone. I think the first thing I tried was taking a step back and figuring out which behaviour needed to be stopped and which ones weren't really doing any harm. For instance, hitting is not acceptable at anytime, so we time out until it stopped. My son loves the word fart, he will say it in the house, and laugh away saying it to himself in his room, this isn't really doing any harm, so we let him away with it. Welcome to the journey. Guest guest
Thanks for your support. It was hard to not understand, we were very frustrated before. We have a double issue however, the father has visitation and does not believe he has asperger, he thinks spanking will straighten him up. That only makes him worst, shen he comes back to us after the weekend. Guest guest
Thats really hard, I am with my husband and it took me a long time to convince him that our son wasn't just being cheeky. It must be really confusing for your daughter getting spanked for something she can't help/doesn't understand. Is there anyone that is neutral that could speak to your husband about your daughter? Do you have any other support, it can be very draining to be on your own. I go to a gym where my son can go to the kids zone, its only 4 hrs a week, but it keeps me sane. Find some me time if you can, it really helps. Guest guest
Margie, as someone stated earlier about checking with medical assistance, when you sign up for it let them know that your child has a disability. When I first tried to get it for my son, the DPW refused me because of my income. The case worker did not in.form me that we were eligible for MA under another classification. Some case workers are helpful and others only want to do the littlest they possibly can. Both of my children have MA and I was able to get it under whats called the "Loophole Program". It's based on the child's medical need not our income. We live in PA, I don't know what they have in Michigan. Their MA covers all of their medical bills. As for SSI, yes the child is eligible, however, they do go by your income. We weren't able to receive anything from SS. My son is 15 and will be able to apply when he reaches 18 though.-Good Luck, From: margiedeedee <margiedeedee@...>Subject: ( ) New Date: Saturday, November 13, 2010, 1:51 PM Hi, my name is Marge and my son david age 7 has just been diagnosed with Aspergers and ADHD. Kinda lost at the moment really not sure where to go or what to do? We live in Michigan. I have talked to his Speech Therapist at school and she is getting her team around to set up his IEP. He has an appointment Monday to see his pediatrican about medication for the ADHD. But haven't contacted any therapist at this point. What resources are available for us in Michigan? To be truthfull I am worried about the financial aspects of this as well. I WILL do whatever I need to, to get him all the help he needs but as I said this is all new to me! People have told us he is eligible for SS/disability but somehow I don't see that happening? Does anyone know anything about this kind of thing! I would appreciate any advice you can give me! Thanks

Guest guest
Hi everyone. I'm new here. My name is Fawn, and I'm a single mom of two boys. My older son, 11, has Asperger's Syndrome. My 9 year old is NT. My father is also an Aspie. Sometimes I feel completely alone in my struggles. My father requires more and more support as he's getting older. Plus I'm fighting for the right kind of supports for my son. Some days I simply hate getting up in the mornings.
