Guest guest
I took Clomid with my first daughter, she doesn't have AS, the other 5 I didn't take anything, and 2 of them have AS. In my case, it seemd to have run everyother child, until the last one and she doesn't appear to have it. Her only problem is, that she is the youngest of 6 and acts like she is the queen. Guest guest
I got preggo naturally with both, one child has AS and the other, well we are still on the fence about him he's newly 6 and some AS behaviors are creeping in..... he def has sensory issues and is in OT for em. Who knows. I think there are probably a lot of environmental factors. I stopped asking why, it took up to much emotional energy for me :-D Thanks for posting the article I am interested in reading! Guest guest
Thank you so much for that reply . I am pregnant with #6 and we too seem to be every other child. But I wouldn't say any except the 1 year old (so far) are nt. #1 and 3 are the nt for comparison. They are easy I guess is why and have no probs. However I wouldn't say nt though b/c they are highly gifted. My " others " or as I put it, the even #s, are #2 with hfa (and technically still dx adhd, bp, and spd) and #4 with a very severe articulation delay that I am cautiously thinking is not bp or autistic but am still fearful is adhd or pdd-nos as he is showing more signs with age but at least a year later than #2 showed and not as severe so hoping if it is anything it is just adhd or pdd-nos but praying it is just the effects of being unable to communicate easily. Anyway I really don't think I can handle going through it with him too much less another. I recently noticed the odd/even pattern but was already expecting and so was fearful of this. 2 and 4 were so passive in utero kick counts took forever, the others were so active (the more active the more laid back after birth) in utero I didn't have to do kick counts. This one is very active so I am convincing myself it is a laid back kid. I have to convince myself b/c I also fear I created #2 by worrying too much in pregnancy. The whole time I kept worrying she would be very high needs b/c I couldn't get so lucky twice in a row. By lucky I meant with an easy child. So your post really is so reasssuring that it is a possibility. I can handle a princess lol. There is a 5 year gap between 2 and 3, so 3 thinks she's a princess, actually she is even named sarah which means princess. Guest guest
To answer the question, 5 kids, 1 hfa, 1 possible issues, 3 " nt " . No fertility drugs with any of them. Someone also mentioned induction. So I will pipe in on meds in labor. I have 3 I received pitocin with. 2 of the nt and then the hfa. I received an epidural with the same 3. I received other pain relievers with one of the nt but not the hfa. No assistance in delivery. So no correlation at all To go furthur though my hfa was the only one I took phenergen with. Not sure if the phenergen played a role or maybe the dehydration before the phenergen. I also had a fever late in my 1st trimester with her which is something that is said to link to neurologic issues On 5/20/10, Suzanne Markwood <suzmarkwood@...> wrote: > I saw this article today, saying that women who took drugs for infertility > were twice as likely to have a child with ASD. Guest guest
Our children were IVF too, plus emergency C-section at 35 weeks and on incubator for 3 days after birth plus seizure after MMRI vaccine around 2.5 years of age. Just diagnosed with Aspergers, nov verbal learning disability and developmental motor. I'd had a theory there was a link as we know another family that did IVF with a Son with Aspergers. Both of our Sons are in the 99% for verbal, but have the non verbal issues as well as social communication. Wasn't sure if it was the shots with IVF and MMRI or hormones. Guest guest
Not here either... I was induced and a Vacuum Extractor was used. I do believe this is what caused Maeci's AS. The top of her head had a fluid filled lump for 3 months. Maeci has disgraphia as well. Guest guest
I was going to ask about birth size and about being early. My hfa is my smallest and earliest in addition to induction and epidural. My hfa was 7 lbs 5 oz but only 18 " , the same height as my niece who was 4 wks early. 7 lbs 5 oz may not seem small but I was 9 lbs and my sisters were almost 9 lbs and over 9 lbs. My 1st and 5th were 8 lbs 3 oz, my 4th was 9 lbs 4 oz and my 3rd, the next smallest was my only other 1 induced early baby was 7 lbs 15 oz. So she was nearly 1-2 lbs smaller than my uninduced babies. Also she was induced 4 days early. Again doesn't seem like a lot but years later I realised that my due date was probably wrong b/c she was conceived on day 18 not 14 so that adds another 4 days and if due dates are + or - 2 wks...my 4th and 5th, uninduced were 8 days late (and my mom delivered kids 2-3+ wks late) and that is based on an adjusted due date by u/s not by lmp so I think I am not a 40 wk person so I suspect she is probably equavalant to a good 2 wks early. The other thing I have wondered about is anestethia? My dd received anestethia for a cat scan at 18 month. She did not do well with it. She woke up very quickly so had to receive more. Then she woke up quickly from that. She woke up violent and after a lot of inconsolability and violence she fell back asleep and slept for like 6 hrs then woke up disoriented. Coincidentally her issues started sometime between 1 and 2 so may coincide with that The only other one of mine to receive iv anestethia is my son. He received it at 2 and at 3 for ear tubes. He did " ok " the 1st time compared to his sister but also was unusual, upset upon waking and never slept even a minute where they expected him to for hrs. Second time he was more violent and also didn't sleep. He also developed violent tendencies somewhere in that time. Though he also lost speech early (currently attributed to the temp hearing lose from fluid before the tubes) so had signs before the violence. He is 3.5 now and we worry he has adhd, bp or pdd On 5/23/10, Elinor Mullin <elliemullin@...> wrote: > Not here either... I was induced and a Vacuum Extractor was used. Guest guest
Wow. My birth story for my AS son is the same. No fertility drugs, but I was induced followed by an emergency C-section. He was in an O2 tent for almost a day before I could hold him. I wonder if anyone is studying the incidence of AS/HFA in kids who were induced or are put on O2 immediately after they are born? It's just interesting to me that our birth stories are so similar. > > > > From: Suzanne Markwood <suzmarkwood> > > Subject: ( ) ASD linked to infertility drugs > > > > Date: Thursday, May 20, 2010, 12:29 PM > > > > > > I saw this article today, saying that women who took drugs for infertility were twice as likely to have a child with ASD. Guest guest
It does seem like there is an awful lot of us who were induced. It would be interesting to know at what stage your inductions were and if you were positive on due date. Mine was a 39 wk 4 day induction and the due date was off On 5/25/10, annehundz <annehundz@...> wrote: > Wow. My birth story for my AS son is the same. Guest guest
My daughter was 8.7 20inches 39 weeks c-section, breechMy son was 7.3 21 inches 37 weeks VBAC 12 hours of labor My son had anethesia (SP) for an 8 hour surgery and they told us he would wake up very irritable and possibly scream and violent. Its a reaction with kids from it. He did, it wasn't super severe but was bad enough On May 23, 2010, at 5:52 PM, Durocher wrote: I was going to ask about birth size and about being early. He did "ok" the 1st time compared to his sister but also was unusual, upset upon waking and never slept even a minute where they expected him to for hrs. Guest guest
Labor with my son was difficult and they had to induce. I never considered that might be related. My son is 14, and has only recently been diagnosed with asbergers. He already had the OCD and ADHD diagnosis. He was abused at a daycare when he was between 2 and 3. We have tended to blame any problems he had on the abuse. Now we are seeing that he would have probably had these problems anyway. He was always different, but I didn't thnk autistic because he talked and he always communicated with us. It has been a relief to my husb and me to finally have some idea of what's going on.Deana in Bham, ALSent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®From: Byrne <kabob@...>Date: Tue, 25 May 2010 08:05:21 -0700< >Subject: Re: ( ) ASD linked to infertility drugs My daughter was 8.7 20inches 39 weeks c-section, breechMy son was 7.3 21 inches 37 weeks VBAC 12 hours of labor My son had anethesia (SP) for an 8 hour surgery and they told us he would wake up very irritable and possibly scream and violent. Guest guest
Hi ya. No fertility drugs. Aspie son born 7.3. 2 weeks over. Induced because 40 hour labour. He did however have a cyst on the brain in utero. This drained but caused him to have ACC, Agenisis Corpus Collosum. This means the fibres that connect the two sides of the brain were not formed. Is someone recording all of these birth stories? Be interesting to see a common link. Kel I will keep climbing the mountain. Guest guest
I did not use infertility drugs, but delivered by c section because first child was c section. Her father and paternal grandmother and several cousins on that side of the family are on the spectrum. So I believe in our case, it was genetic and not related to delivery. However, my first child is neurotypical. Regards, melody
