Guest guest
I was induced at 38-1/2 weeks because the baby was measuring very big. I had pre-term labor at 34 weeks and it was stopped with meds. The doctor ended up using a vacuum to assist in delivery and was 11 lbs 2 oz, and 23 inches long. He had a huge blister that covered the whole right front part of the top of his head.> Wow. Guest guest
I agree with you Melody, My Aunt and my husband are on the spectrum. And a cousin of Tom's is also on the spectrum. I believe its genetic for us to. Our son is starting to exhibit some behaviors associated with Aspergers he's 6. He was always very quiet and a lot of that had to do with a health problem he had from birth that they were to dumb to listen to us about so it went till he was 3. But once he had that taken care of he changed into a different child. Guest guest
Well, I guess I get to be the first of the group to report that I did use Clomid to assist with ovulation with my son's pregnancy. BUT, my labor was also induced about 2 weeks early (but I had already had some real labor pains that stalled), and I had a c-section, after he was in distress. I also had gestational diabetes... So who knows! > > > > > > From: Suzanne Markwood <suzmarkwood> > > > Subject: ( ) ASD linked to infertility drugs > > > > > > Date: Thursday, May 20, 2010, 12:29 PM > > > > > > > > > I saw this article today, saying that women who took drugs for infertility were twice as likely to have a child with ASD. I have always wondered about this, as I took Clomid to get pregnant with my son n, who has Aspergers. But I got pregnant naturally with my second son, who is NT. And two friends I know who have sons with austism, also had taken Clomid. I know it's coincidental, I'm sure many other people have taken infertility drugs without this happening. But I was wondering if anyone else on the list with AS kids, also took Clomid-type drugs? Guest guest
That was going to be my next question since it seems a good 90% said they were induced. Most often pitocin is used but in some cases cervadil, stripping membranes or water breaking I enough and pitocin is not needed. But many ppl receive pitocin to hurry things even when not induced. So how many of us received pitocin? Though I am saying yes, I also received pitocin with 2 of my nt kids. The 1 that I received the most with (the max dose) is actually not even adhd and I highly gifted. So if there is a link I would have to believe it is in pushing an at risk child over the edge. My son who obviously has, a so far undx, special need (adhd? Pdd-nos? Something like that) did not receive pitocin, I didn't even have an iv with him. Guest guest
Never thought about fertility drugs....I did take fertility drugs to get pregnant with my first child, my daughter.(no autism) My second child came along 18 months later naturally.(no autism) I took fertility drugs for awhile about three years after my second child, but did not get pregnant and gave up after a couple years of trying. Then suprise my third son came along without fertility drugs there is seven years between him and his older brother.(ASD) My son with ASD was born at 42 weeks, after my water broke and I wasn't dialating... I recieved pitocin and was in labor for 26 hours when my uterus ruptured and he was taken by emergency c-section. My husband and I have feel that his difficult birth may have a part in him having ASD. Guest guest
Besides me being on Clomid to get pregnant with n, he was also born at 42 weeks and I was induced (with Cervadil and Pitocin). We have joked about it- saying he was born 2 weeks late and he's been running late ever since. I think all of these little things add up - and there will never be one "reason" that kids have autism/asperger's. But if we can narrow it down and eliminate some risks, that would help so much. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Suzanne suzmarkwood@...>> > Wow. My birth story for my AS son is the same. Very interesting that there might be a link here. Most often pitocin is used but in some casescervadil, stripping membranes or water breaking I enough and pitocinis not needed. But many ppl receive pitocin to hurry things even when not induced. So how many of us received pitocin? Though I am saying yes, I alsoreceived pitocin with 2 of my nt kids. The 1 that I received the mostwith (the max dose) is actually not even adhd and I highly gifted. So if there is a link I would have to believe it is in pushing an at riskchild over the edge. My son who obviously has, a so far undx, specialneed (adhd? Pdd-nos? Something like that) did not receive pitocin, Ididn't even have an iv with him.
