Guest guest
BG- I am a single mom and college student. I had a health crisis last semester which caused all sorts of problems. In December I moved in with my parents and sisters, one of which has some severe health problems. They also have three dogs, one the must be constantly managed or kenneled. The kid is homeschooled. Problem- My sister's health has declined to the point that she is going to the Mayo Clinic for help. My mom and sisters left on Tuesday. The kid is freaked out. He thinks my sister is going to die there and no amount of talking about it is helping. To add to it my X has no time to spend with the kid right now. So I moved in to get help and instead I'm here alone with three dogs one of which is high maintenance and a kid that is freaking out and I'm starting to feel sick again. None of my friends can handle him, he doesn't have any friends that he can go over to their house. So I feel like I am in a worse position than I was before. My healthy sister was supposed to come home this weekend and I was looking forward to her companionship, but they decided she should stay there for another week and I feel just hopeless. Guest guest
I am so sorry you have so much to juggle. First I would start with yourself ..if you say this really is a bad situation ...you will likely feel anxious ....so start with this ...my family is available on some level. Because they are available on some level. OK. At least you won't give yourself a panic attack with negative thoughts. About your sister ...you can say this " I have hope, she is in one of the best medical centers in the world and I am happy she is seeking treatment " . About your child ...start a sticker chart ...give him stickers if he mentions something he is hopeful for your sister, or willing to say a prayer .. or you can get him or her to help clean the house a little to help your relatives ... this is a behavioral method ...changes in behaviors have an impact on cognition (thinking).
