I had a moment to peruse the internet and found this site interesting

in regards to what different looking poops might mean:

http://www.enzymestuff.com/rtstools.htm

The stringyness is talked about under yeast. Also, there was a link to

a "poop group" that may have more info for you. It seemed like

the group was an autism/ADD/leaky gut group that covers GI issues and

talks a lot about poop. I don't have time to look at the group now,

but might later. It could be fun!

All the best,

The dieoff issue is an interesting topic. We've

been on GAPS (no stages yet) for 6 weeks and I've definitely noticed

more crankiness and irritability in myself and my older son. The latter

has also been even more sensitive and fragile than usual, crying at

just the slightest perceived hurt. He has also been constipated for the

past week, which has never been an issue for him before. (However, I

recently started giving him some clay every night to provide support

for his weak teeth, and it's possible that the clay may be resulting in

temporary constipation - ultimately it's supposed to help regulate

stools.) And I have felt depressed more than in a while too, but it

could be because, like , I'm exhausted from all the time

focused on food prep! Both boys are still saying they're hungry

constantly.

Questions:

What does it mean when someone has a major

"crash" at mealtime? Both my husband and ds#1 eat dinner and then

nearly fall asleep at the table, they sit there barely able to stay

upright, looking practically comatose... It seems like a digestive

issue but I don't know what to do beyond what we're doing. DS#1 takes

digestive enzymes, though we may switch to the HCl soon...

What does it mean when stools come out in lots of

little stringy pieces (pardon the graphic description)? My younger

son (age 4) has never had well formed stools, and frequently his stools

are voluminous but made up of tons of small pieces, often looking kind

of like a fat worm or something. He has had a tendency towards diarrhea

in the past but hasn't had any lately. He has no other discernible GAPS

symptoms that I can tell, except perhaps a tendency to get sick easily,

which seems to be better since a homeopathic constitutional remedy. The

poops worry me though. Does anyone know if that could be a sign of

parasites? He did have pinworm a couple of years ago (I saw one

crawling out of his rear!), which we ended up treating conventionally.

suggested that the poops could be a sign of fecal compaction, but

he doesn't ever have leakage or accidents, which is how I've heard

fecal compaction described, and he has a BM at least once a day...

Thanks for your collective wisdom, everyone.

What other symptoms are people experiencing themselves or with their

children? Have you noticed any behavioral or personality changes

(positive or negative), or any regressions of past behavior?

For myself, I am cranky, negative, and exhausted from spending so much

time preparing food, although I’ve finally figured out how to have

enough for leftovers. I read somewhere the other day (can’t remember

where, that’s another symptom!) that negativity is often a sign of

imbalance in the gut flora. Right now I am the poster child for that

one!

What supplements is he on? When I gave my son too much magnesium and/or

vitamin C his stool became soft and really smelly.

It could be due to food sensitivities.

How old is your son and what's his diet like? My son's stool didn't form

until he was eating solids (not pureed, etc) 100% of the time.

I would talk to your dr about the thread-looking material.

seems like yeast problem. Talk to his doctor and do a stool analysis, you

would find out what's causing it.

My son used to have dark sticky stool with overpowering smell..diagnosed to

have candida infection, now under treatment, the smell is more normal now.

I would look into carrageenan/thickeners connections with these types

of poop issue...wishing you the best, elizabeth

At my house, this was caused by too much vitamin C, yeast die off, and

also carotene conversion issues. Do you give him a lot of orange or

green foods, or corn?

>>also have found what looks like 5mm poop covered threads throughout

but am certain these are not pin worms.

When my son's bm looked like it contained strings of melted cheese, it

meant he had a yeast overgrowth problem, or yeast was dying off.
