Guest guest
I am currently reading Tony Attwood's The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome. It is good, but I was dragging through it until I got to a really interesting paragraph. He said, "The reader will be interested to know that I have discovered a means of removing almost all of the characteristics that define Asperger's syndrome in any child or adult. This simple procedure does not require expensive and prolonged therapy......" by this time I was, of course, almost panting in hope and expectation....he went on to say," If you are a parent, take your child with Asperger's syndrome to his or her bedroom. Leave the child alone in the bedroom and close the door behind you as you walk out of the room. The signs of Asperger's syndrome have now disappeared." Meaning, that the Aspie child is normal unless he or she has to socialize. I laughed. Don't know if I laughed at the idea or at myself, but it was good to laugh again. I will continue to try to get through the book. It is not pulp fiction, so takes lots of thought.. If you are going to read one book, the best I'd recommend to start with is: Asperger’s Syndrome: A Guide for Parents and Professionals by Tony Attwood (1998) Liz T. Guest guest
I like tony attwood. I heard him speak before and he was very entertaining and interesting. I have not always liked his way of describing some things like this. It seems so simplistic. I mean, I could shut the door on my kid's room and still know he had autism. Maybe that is a difference between AS and HFA? Of course, Attwood has a cute saying for that as well that says there is no difference between the two disorders. lol. But my ds's both had a lot of problems besides just socializing. I wish that was the only issue we had to deal with. Guest guest
I just read "1001 Great Ideas for Teaching and Raising Children with Austism or Asperger's." by Ellen Notbohm/ Zysk with a forward by Temple Grandin. I thought it had a lot of good information and suggestions. I've highlighted and dog-eared some pages. I would definitely recommend it.ne From: Roxanna <MadIdeas@...>Subject: Re: ( ) Re: Can you recommend a book on Aspergers? Date: Sunday, January 9, 2011, 6:13 PM I like tony attwood.
