Guest guest
Both of my sons use melatonin every night to help them fall asleep. My 7 y.o. (AS) takes 10 mg in pill form and my 4 y.o. (ASD) takes 1 mg in liquid form in his bedtime juice. Both started melatonin at about age 2 and we have never had any problems at all. Guest guest
We use it on occasion (1.5mg spray). I recently read that " brushing " using the Wilbarger protocol every two hrs throughout the day can help with sleep and speech issues as well. An OT can show you how to do it or you can research it yourself. The whole process takes 2-3 min every two hrs. > > I have a 2 year old recently diagnosed ASD and our SLP was suggesting the use of melatonin to help him sleep thru the night. Guest guest
My 11 yo ds, newly diagnosed with AS has been taking melatonin for several years now, it keeps him on a routine and otherwise he'll be up til 12 or 2 and still get up between 6 and 7.  He goes to bed at 8 pm on school nights and 9 or 10 pm on non school nights.   My dd, 16, BP has to take melatonin in addition to her other meds to sleep or she is up all night and then has a meltdown around 4 p.m. the next day (every slumber party is like this if I don't enforce sleep or a nap in the a.m.)  I tried going without melatonin this summer for a month with my son to see if he really needed it and the lack of routine because he couldn't fall asleep at bedtime and still woke up early and then was tired most of the day really messed with him.  Anne Sleeping: he sometimes has a hard time falling asleep because of his racing thoughts and he also suffers from night terrors but we use melatonin to help him fall asleep if we see a pattern of a lot of hard to fall asleep nights. The other thing is getting him up in the morning, it's pure HELL. He's NEVER had a time where he didn't need sleep. I think he may even be better off if he had more rest.
