Guest guest
Robin....oh I love it....I love it....only the exceptional one overcome it. Oh, Robin, I am learning so much and I am trying my darndest to remain STRONG...ADOVCATE...I am blessed that I work on the West side of the district and my son goes to the East side....I have so many WONDERFUL teacher friends who give me advice and I always try to pass on to you guys. I am no angel...no superhero...just a person who wants what is right for her son and ALL children with Special Needs. And, I mean ALL. I just had to advocate for my student because I knew the parents would not. Ugh! But being a lefty...I do feel special...I feel different but in a Good Way and I love it. You can bribe him with some of his favorive activities if he focuses on the activity he doesn't want to do. You can also try to incorporate some of his favorite topics into the things he doesn't want to do. Does he like fish? Try to get him to tell you the color, or the number or the type of fish. Does he like cars? Have him count the wheels, or write the name of the car down. Guest guest
My dad was a lefty and I was always finding funny stuff to send him with those kinds of " lefty " quips on them. When I was in Kindergarten/1st grade, I broke my right arm/hand and was in a big cast for a long time. I got so upset because they would not let me write or draw with my left hand! I figured if my dad could do it, I could too. lol. Seemed logical enough! lol. And really, I did a good job at it. But those teachers would freak out and did all my writing for me. Guest guest
I'm a lefty; My mom and brother are too. My dad was the only right-handed person in our family growing up. Neither of my kids are left-handed though which bums me out a little. It's funny how you learn to compensate for the right-handed world. I've tried using those spirals for left-handed people and I just don't like them. Desks made for leftys are great though! Guest guest
Both my parents are righties...my younger brother and I are lefties but the 3 other children were righties. My husband is a rightie and my son is a LEFTY! My son would write on the back of the sheet of paper in a spiral notebook...ha ha...never understood it...but finally realized why...the Spiral got in his way. OMG.....he is smart...and I can be so dumb....I just learned to deal with it...but he is so sensory afflicted....I got a good laugh!!! OMG...another light bulb just went off...and it is probably why he use to start his work way to the right on the paper...if they made him use the front of the sheet...the spiral got in the way...so he would start further over....so the spiral didn't bother him. OMG....I just realized, figured this out due to your insight. And, to think I am a lefty.duh! jan From: MacAllister <smacalli@...> Sent: Sat, November 21, 2009 11:29:05 AMSubject: Re: ( ) Re:Lefty and Lovin it! I'm a lefty; My mom and brother are too. Guest guest
My dad, as well, was a lefty and his nasty mother smacked him everytime he wanted to use his left hand. He "BECAME" right-handed.......nice. They say that your brain is "wired" certain ways and it goes with what hand you find dominant. Anyway, I remember my grandma telling us how her teacher would "rap" the lefties knuckles during school and nothing would be done about it. Yikes. You lefties have come a looooonnnnnggggg way. Guest guest
Back in college, they had some single desks for left-handed people and it was great b/c you wouldn't have to twist all the way around in your seat to write. I liked those desks, but they were few and far between. Now it seems like they have different types of seating in the classrooms most of the time, like long tables and chairs so it works for both left- and right-handed people. Guest guest
Rulers on kids in 1976....oh my ...oh my...I worry now if a student hugs me...it is awful...everything has to be so "politically correct". can not say Merry Christmas....it is happy holidays...if kids are fighting...and you have to break them apart...there are certain methods to be used. If a student comes at you to hurt you or punch you...we learned how to stop it w/out hurting the student.
