Guest guest
Just wanted to know if anyone used Liquid Melatonin for their child to help them sleep and was it helpful? How was your child the next morning? thanks Rose
Guest guest
We use Melatonin in pill form. It comes and goes for helpfulness. Sometimes it'll work GREAT, sometimes not at all. Regardless, he's fine in the morning. From: beachbodytan2002 <beachbodytan2002@...>Subject: ( ) Liquid Melatonin - anyone try it? Guest guest
We use a tablet form of melatonin which dissolves under the tongue for our 3 year old son (I think he mostly chews it, to tell you the truth, but it seems to work fine anyway). It has been an amazing tool to help him go to sleep quickly at bedtime - a few minutes instead of an hour or more. He wakes up at his usual time in the morning - no grogginess or anything. One thing we found is that we had to experiment with the dose a little. We started off with a .5 mg dose, which made very sleepy, but also seemed to cause night waking. We cut it back to ..25 mg, which seems to be perfect for our son right now. Would highly recommend melatonin! Guest guest
Bridget, thank you so much for responding. I was told to give him 1/2 the dropper that comes with the liquid bottle. I just finished reading that Melatonin is recommended for children with autism. I'll work out the dosage then post later on how it worked for us. I couldn't wait for someone to respond with their experience. (T.Y.) Glad to hear the next day he had no grogginess - thanks Rose From: bridget <beanniferj@...>Subject: ( ) Re: Liquid Melatonin - anyone try it? Guest guest
Hi Rose:Both my sons (5 and 8) take liquid melatonin. I've found it very helpful for their sleep and have not noticed any side effects or difficulties the next day. I don't give it to them every night, just on nights when I get the sense that they are going to have difficulty getting to sleep. The liquid form is nice because you can give a very low dose in juice or water when you are just starting out and figuring out what dose works.Hope this helps!PattiFrom: beachbodytan2002 <beachbodytan2002@...> Sent: Fri, December 3, 2010 5:38:50 PMSubject: ( ) Liquid Melatonin - anyone try it? Guest guest
I use it for my son - and myself - when my mind gets a little too 'wired'. It does not make you drowsy or groggy - it just helps your body to naturally relax. No side effects or tiredness upon awakening either. We use various dosages, depending upon how excited he is - normally about 2-3mg. > > Just wanted to know if anyone used Liquid Melatonin for their child to help them sleep and was it helpful? > > How was your child the next morning? > > thanks > Rose >

Guest guest
At about 150 mcg or .15 mg it has helped my 6 year old a lot. If we don't get him to bed shortly after taking it though sometimes we miss our window. Even if we miss the window and he has trouble falling asleep I find that he sleeps better during the rest of the night. He isn't lying awake in the middle of the night near as often. Almost immediately after he started taking it I noticed that his anxiety was a bit reduced and he was a bit more social. Still have to say it works to this day. It doesn't knock him out as quickly as it used to but I think that is pretty typ. for meletonin. Even when I take it myself it works best the first few nights. After that your body adjust to it. It has been reported that if kids get to much their dreams can be very vivid and wake them. Still dreaming is good as that is where I believe some of our social memory is developed. later, john From: PattiAnnB <pabernius@...>Subject: Re: ( ) Liquid Melatonin - anyone try it? Guest guest
Hello PattiAnn, This was our 2nd time trying it. my son is 13 and he is able to tell me if its working. His first dose was 1/3 of the dropper of the liquid. when he woke up he said it worked! it helped him fall asleep fast compared to before when it took him hours to fall asleep but he'll wake up again durning the night. Last night I gave him 1/2 the dropper - he said he had a very good night sleep even tho he woke up once. I think if I give him 3/4 of a dropper that would be the correct amount for him to stay asleep the whole night. what he likes the best is that he can fall asleep fast (instead of just laying there) and when he woke up - he was well rested. I was checking out this site about the liquid melatonin - they said it works best to work out a sleep routine. like take it 30 minutes before bedtime. and go to bed the same time each night. we don't do that yet but I was impressed how well it worked....lol so was he. Guest guest
I think that is a great idea for me to take it too... lol...I didn't think of giving different dosages depending on that night he's having. great idea you brought up. I'll have to ask him at night how he feels then decide on the amount - if needed. that makes so much sence... Thanks!!! OH - he had no side affects either - and a good night sleep. wish I had this years ago! From: dklehman63 <dklehman@...>Subject: ( ) Re: Liquid Melatonin - anyone try it? Guest guest
My husband also takes melatonin nightly. He says it helped him relax and dream and get to that dream part of sleep, he takes it in the pill form. I tried it once and didn't like it. I know my son has rough times when he doesn't get enough sleep. One of the reasons Kindergarten was too much for him, they dumped his naptime and he was overwhelmed. Our bedtime routine is very important to him. Warm bath, melatonin mixed in juice, brush teeth, read and cuddle ( one story) prayers then sleep. The reading, cuddling and prayers all done in bed while relaxing and I dont have to move him again. I have also been told some melatonin types work better than others. My husband said the kind from the grocery store didn't work as well as the one from the health food store. Just a few thoughts on the subject Sandy In a message dated 12/5/2010 10:56:11 A.M. Guest guest
, you were saying that over a few days it wasn't working quit as well as in the beginning and that your body might be adjusting to it. Do you think that maybe you would be able to increase the dosage. I had to for my son. He's 100lbs and his doctor said that we could go up to 6mg if needed.- From: PattiAnnB <pabernius@...>Subject: Re: ( ) Liquid Melatonin - anyone try it? Guest guest
, Yeah I'm pretty sure we could increase the dose since we are sooooo low right now. As a side note, and I've posted it here before, that melatonin for dogs is used to treat anxiety. Apparently the dog version doesn't help them sleep so much as it helps them with fears, anxieties, and phobias such as thunder storms and other loud noises. We are going to continue to give our son Meletonin and I'll just play the dosage by ear. The research studies I think have been using 1 to 3 grams which is much much higher than the 150 mcg we've been using. I might experiment with upping the dose on nights before school.
