Guest guest
I have read somewhere there is a syndrome called either Prader Willi or Angelman, although not classed as ASD many similar behaviour are exhibited (obssessive, hoarding, etc) I wonder if it may also be the case that some AS could exhibit Prader Willi behaviours, one of which is an inability to restrict their eating. Sometimes even a complete obssession with food. Sorry its not help, just an observation, I think they have found with Prader Willi its just a case of locking the fridge and trying to get them to eat a low fat diet, easier said than done, eh? From: Cheryl Guthrie <chguthrie03@...>Subject: ( ) re: food addictions Date: Wednesday, 9 December, 2009, 14:59 It is so frustrating. I once asked a doctor at children's developmental center and they suggested to go see a nutritionist. Like I have more time to take off work for something that I feel will be a waste of time. She is obsessed with food and eating, I just don't feel that someone counseling her on better choices will actually help. She honestly doesn't care what she is eating, as long as something is going into her mouth!! I watched her eat 2 apples at my mom's house after snacks and dinner and my mom's answer, well at least it's healthy (which is so not the point!!) And then she goes to her dad's and he lets her eat a 5 for 5.95 at Arbys (which is like 2 sandwiches, fries, apple turnover, and a coke!) And of course then I have to be the mean one and tell her no. Ok, I got off on a rant, I'm just glad that we are not the only ones dealing with it.Cheryl
Guest guest
We have had to lock food up or remove it from the house. My son is 11 and not overweight but he would only eat the junk food if there were no controls. Loves pop so we cant have that in the house or he will drink it all. It has gotten better if that is any consolation. We have eliminated almost all the locks at this point and just control it by limiting what we bring home. Guest guest
This might be a dumb question, but have you tried getting her gum to chew? It might be a sensory need via the mouth and not really a food addiction? Just a thought... Roxanna " The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. " E.
