Hi Bridget, thanks for these suggestions. Would you believe that SPDfoundation only lists 1 mental health provider for San Diego. I've looked before.

We are members of ASA, I checked the site several months ago - there are a few group/organizations that are not providers with our insurance.... and ASA doesn't offer support groups in East County at this time (unless I want to get one started!) and I'm not able to attend the other locations because of my husbands work schedule is very demanding and we don't have family near us in this state and no babysitters that we know or trust.... sigh... I get my support from all of you on line! I was really hoping someone would here would be able to share who they have found. But I will look into a parent advocacy group. Thanks again for your help! : )

Hi Val,Have you tried finding providers through your local chapter of the Autism Society: http://www.sd-autism.org/? You might be able to get personal recommendations through other parents in your area or a parent advocate there. Another thought that I had was the service provider directory at the Sensory Processing Disorder Foundation: http://www.spdfoundation.net/directory/index.html. Or what about talking to someone at a free parent advocacy group for special needs kids in your area? They probably have a good network and know which therapists are decent - and who is not!Good luck finding someone helpful!Bridget>> Hi,> > We live in San Diego (East County - but will travel!) and we are having the most difficult time finding good Drs. that are familiar with ASD kids. If you live in the area - Please share with me who you've found for your child. If you prefer to e-mail me privately that is absolutely fine! Hi Val:

Yes, I joined the Autism Society too......and the only issue I have is that they don't really have an Asperger support network. I don't know that I can help too much but here is some info.

Pediatrician----We love our Pediatrician----Dr. D. Upton----one of his partners in the office has a child with Aspergers so was great about checking with him about resources.

Social Groups---Dr. Upton referred me to a Social Skills group in Carlsbad. http://www.casefamily.com/ It is too far for me so I never pursued it.....here is a site I found listing others in our area....http://www.sdkidsfirst.com/pdf/social_skills_groups.pdf

NeuroPsychologist......I like the office where my son goes.......check out the site...http://www.drboscan.com/......He sees one of her associates.

Neurologist-----Sorry, can't help here.....we saw one at Rady Children's and he wasn't so great........in my experience.....they specialize in seizures and weren't very helpful.....we got an answer such as...."the brain is still very new and we don't know too much yet"....

As far as a "support group"......I would love to start one......idea....maybe have one meeting a month.....for parents/moms to exchange resources, share stories, etc. The only problem has been getting people.......it wouldn't be something that they HAD to go....just come as you want.....just a thought......we live in Serra Mesa (pretty central in San Diego) so I would be willing to have the location vary so it is convenient for all members. Let me know your thoughts.

Again, if anyone is interested in the San Diego area......let me know.

Debbie

You can try posting on valerieslist.comAsperger's resources are harder to find. Right now, I'm trying to find an optometrist who can coax my dd through an exam.>> Hi,> > We live in San Diego (East County - but will travel!) and we are having the most difficult time finding good Drs. that are familiar with ASD kids. Thank you everyone for your responses. That's 2 for Dr. Reich! I'll probably give him a try. Is he the one who gave the dx as well or did you find him after the dx? Just curious.
