Michele, I know it sounds weird...but it may not be diet related. It may be

that he picked up a stomach bug. It may also be that he has another type of bug

in there...like pylori. He may also have just overindulged, or may be going

through a healing reaction. I would take a step backwards and see if that

helps. If it gets too bad or he doesn't improve then I would test for other

infections.

BEst of luck, Anne

Hi,I have had a few bouts of extremely dry eyes which my ophthalmologist diagnosed as blepharitis. its inflammation of the eyelash follicles, mostly the bottom. she prescribed this ointment (very expensive) which was basically petroleum jelly i found out. she instructed me to wash my eyes very thoroughly with mild soap. this worked fine. i've just washed with mild soap and it worked! maintain clean eye health and it should not be a problem. the inflammation seems related to the other inflammation in body for folks with leaky gut. give it a try and let me know if it helps.LilaFrom: dccountryurbanite <michelepoynton@...> Sent: Tue, March 15, 2011 5:42:18 PMSubject: [ ] New stomach pain on GAPS intro?

Hello,

What could cause a sudden onset of stomach pain after eating when the intro diet had been going well? My husband, toddler and I started the GAPS intro 2 months ago. My husband's problems that prompted us to do this are dry eye syndrome, various skin infections, joint inflammation, mild reflux and mild IBD. Tests from a naturopath showed poor gut flora.

Things were going well for him as we went to stage 4 and then started introducing raw vegetables very slowly. Then a week ago, with no recent changes in diet, he started getting stomach pain after eating the breakfast soup (I make ginger-squash in chicken stock - sounds like it should be fine, right?). The pain lasts for 60-90 minutes, and he has sometimes loose, sometime hard BM - also odd because he never had problems with constipation or diarrhea.

I didn't think the soup could be the problem as that is the best thing for inflammed digestive systems. So I cut out the raw vegetables, the fermented vegetables (still getting the liquid), then the yogurt and kefir. It didn't help. He swore it was the ginger-squash soup still, so I relented and he just had the nut butter-squash pancakes for breakfast instead - and he was fine. So the next day I made onion soup with the pancakes, which was fine, but the next day it bothered him!

So today he is back down to stage 2 (no pancakes and no dairy), but still having stomach pain after eating soup (not every time, though). He has been taking the HCL with Pepsin, but stopped for a few days - didn't seem to make a differnce in the pain either way. He occasionally takes tylenol when the headache from the dry eye syndrome is really bad, or ibuprophen for inflammation - though not since the stomach pain began happening (I know, not ideal, but we haven't found a natural way to deal with it yet - hoping the diet will fix it.)

So anyway, this is frustrating for him because he never had these problems before, and it is just adding to other pains he already has. Any thoughts on what is going on? Thanks!!

I'm wondering if your husband was tolerating the kefir and yogurt well? I developed a sensitivity to anything fermented so I can't have the fermented juice in my soup, or yogurt, kefir. The sensitivity is due to yeasts that culture in things that are fermented or dried (even dried fruit, coffee and tea have to be avoided). I now have the soup without fermented juice and instead take a lot of Bio-Kult.It could be just a stomach bug, though, like someone else suggested so I think going back to stage 2 was a wise decision. Hopefully it'll resolve quickly. I might have him try soup without the fermented juice and try taking Bio-Kult with every meal. Then reintroduce the fermented juice in a few weeks to see if he has the stomach pain again. On Mar 15, 2011, at 5:42 PM, dccountryurbanite wrote:

I forgot to mention that both my husband and I had problems with dry eye and I would often have redness and sometimes develop a little pimple on my eye which needed steroids to resolve. All of this has resolved naturally on GAPS but it has taken time.On Mar 16, 2011, at 10:02 AM, us wrote:

Hi,

I, much to my disappointment, absolutely cannot tolerate milk, even whole raw

milk. After reintroducing dairy, my tummy problems started getting horrible

again. Turns out I can handle yogurt, cheese, and raw cream, but not milk.

Also, this probably isn't your cause, but I started getting horrible little

cysts around my eyes that went away when I stopped using Latisse (the

prescription drops that make your eyelashes long and thick).

Dang! I was looking good there for a bit! ;)
