Hello,

What could cause a sudden onset of stomach pain after eating when the intro diet

had been going well? My husband, toddler and I started the GAPS intro 2 months

ago. My husband's problems that prompted us to do this are dry eye syndrome,

various skin infections, joint inflammation, mild reflux and mild IBD. Tests

from a naturopath showed poor gut flora.

Things were going well for him as we went to stage 4 and then started

introducing raw vegetables very slowly. Then a week ago, with no recent changes

in diet, he started getting stomach pain after eating the breakfast soup (I make

ginger-squash in chicken stock - sounds like it should be fine, right?). The

pain lasts for 60-90 minutes, and he has sometimes loose, sometime hard BM -

also odd because he never had problems with constipation or diarrhea.

I didn't think the soup could be the problem as that is the best thing for

inflammed digestive systems. So I cut out the raw vegetables, the fermented

vegetables (still getting the liquid), then the yogurt and kefir. It didn't

help. He swore it was the ginger-squash soup still, so I relented and he just

had the nut butter-squash pancakes for breakfast instead - and he was fine. So

the next day I made onion soup with the pancakes, which was fine, but the next

day it bothered him!

So today he is back down to stage 2 (no pancakes and no dairy), but still having

stomach pain after eating soup (not every time, though). He has been taking the

HCL with Pepsin, but stopped for a few days - didn't seem to make a differnce in

the pain either way. He occasionally takes tylenol when the headache from the

dry eye syndrome is really bad, or ibuprophen for inflammation - though not

since the stomach pain began happening (I know, not ideal, but we haven't found

a natural way to deal with it yet - hoping the diet will fix it.)

So anyway, this is frustrating for him because he never had these problems

before, and it is just adding to other pains he already has. Any thoughts on

what is going on? Thanks!!

Michele
