Guest guest
Wow, that's so great that he can go to talk to you about that. I only hope my son will have that openess with me at that age. Cute story. : ) ( ) Paranoias Ok, I got one for the group....I get a phone call at work today from my son telling me he thinks he has herpes.Son: Mom, I have herpesMe: What!!Son: Yeah, I looked it up on the internet.Me: What? What makes you think this? Son: I have some red bumps on my penis. When you get home can you look at it?Me: What? Who told you about this? (I was refering to the herpes)Son: Well will you look at it?Me: We'll talk about it when I get home. When I get home he asks me again if I would look at it. Ok, my son is 14 and I'm sorry but I just didn't feel comfortable doing this. So anyway...Me: So how do you know about herpes?Son: You know Mom, they talk about it at schoolMe: Ok since you looked it up on the internet, how do you get herpes?Son: I don't know.Me: I thought you looked it up.Son: Yeah, but just to see what it looked like.Me: Well I'll tell you how you get it. You get it by having sex. Son: Oh. Well what is it then. Can you look at it?Now, I'm sure many of you can relate to the fact that our kids have maturity deficits from their peers. So my son is 14, but is really like a 11 year old in his perspective on most things. So he is really clueless when kids at school talk about certain things. Come to find out he has what looks like a heat rash, but we will confirm with the dr. Anyway, to my question. My son has always had these paranoias with deseases or germs, bugs and other things that I can't think of right now. Just wondering if any of you had this with your kids? My son will get obsessed if he hears about some illness, bacteria or whatever and will not let it go. He will get very paranoid about it. Has anyone else had experience with this? Hope this got a laugh out from some of you! Guest guest
Thank you for the laugh...To answer your question, yes. We were talking about my nephew who has diabetes and to find out his dad now has it. The next thing we know Madeline checked out a bunch of books about it and wants to know if she has it. A few years ago it was something else. I can't remember what it was...I am still chuckling about this.. Guest guest
Sue, this is a new one on me! But I could totally see my son doing this. He is a hypochondriac, he exaggerates every little ache and pain. This week his back hurt ( after a day with a lot of physical activity) and he was asking me where his kidney was. Guest guest
I didn't laugh it was too close to home. My 13 daughter has worried about bleeding to death when she has her period and wants the same kind of reassurance. Mom are you sure I am not going to bleed to death? Mom are you sure this is normal? It is a kind of OCD type checking problem. On that spectrum of anxiety disorders. Because no amount of information, self care books, talks from the school nurse or doctor reassures her, she is right back to checking. I hope it is not of this extent and he forgets about it. Guest guest
Our house is pretty much a " clothing optional " zone when it's just us. When Isaac was about six or seven, the doorbell rang. He yelled " pizza dude! " (we'd ordered pizza) and answered the door before we could intercept him. Danced around a bit in front of the pizza delivery guy, who was just about coming unglued trying NOT to bust out laughing! We have since drilled into him that although we see each other's nekkid bodies, we do NOT let other see! He sure was cute though dancing around while I was trying to move him out of sight! Guest guest
OMG, this is hysterical!! I could totally see this being my son in the next 6 years! My son is the biggest hypochondriac. I swear he complains more about aches & pains than my 80 year old grandmother! His back hurts, his neck hurts, etc. When he falls playing Upward basketball, it can be reallt embarrassing! The smallest fall will leave him limping & unable to play! Last week he was sick with the flu and he was having such bad " muscle weekness that he couldn't even walk " . I guess I can give up on this getting better, huh, lol? I just worry about him growing up and being a whimpy boy...I was thinking this behavior would be accepted slightly more if he were a gorl, but even then, it is way too much! > > Sue, this is a new one on me! Guest guest
Aren't we the lucky ones.?...lol....my older son would never have let me see him naked past the age of ten! ne From: s_hansen34 <s_hansen34@...>Subject: ( ) Paranoias Date: Tuesday, March 8, 2011, 10:11 PM Ok, I got one for the group....I get a phone call at work today from my son telling me he thinks he has herpes.Son: Mom, I have herpesMe: What!!Son: Yeah, I looked it up on the internet.Me: What? Sometimes you just gotta laugh! :-)ne
Guest guest
We sure are the lucky ones!!!Our youngest son, from day1 has been private. Even shut the bathroom door when he went in. NO ONE does that here. It honestly took "training" for my other kids to learn to shut the door at their grandparents. Sigh. But,,,my youngest...nope. Never seen him naked. Not since maybe 3? He'd wash himself, toilet himself.....never walked around naked. All my others did. Heck - my older daughter walked around without a shirt until she was 8. Then, she kind of "got it" and didn't feel comfy. We coudl very well be nudist's. he he. Not pretty ones, mind you....he he. Guest guest
Oh I am so sorry. I meant I was worned out with my daughter's questions she thinks everything is something dangerous, she questions the doctors authority about medications she fears, she questions me daily about if is normal that she uses deoderant, if she doesn't see me for a few minutes at home, she is calling for me to check if something is ok. She worries that I don't use enough organic foods, she wouldn't eat a meal because I covered it with foil to keep it hot and the food had tomatoes cooked in it (she heard not to use foil with acidic foods). So when you wrote about your son I thought this is so familar. I feel somewhat down that I can't extinguish this behavior in her. But I quess it is a AS trait to repeat things. I am sorry again for the misunderstanding. Pam <s_hansen34@...> wrote: > > You didn't upset me. I was just worried I had offended you. Anyway, you say you are worn out with these type of questions. Guest guest
Hi Pam, I'm glad we straightened out our misunderstandings...:-) Sometimes it is difficult to make yourself understood in an email. I know what you mean about all the questions. It is hard to raise a child that questions everything you tell them especially when they try to argue with you that their perspective is the right perspective. LOL! It is even more frustrating when they have these paranoias and there is not much you can do to change it. All you can do is hope it subsides or goes away eventually. :-) ne> > > From: Pamela <susanonderko@...>> Subject: ( ) Re: Paranoias> > Date: Thursday, March 10, 2011, 9:27 AM> > > Â > > > > Oh no you didn't offend me in any way at all.
