Guest guest
My son is 12.5 yrs old, and has ADHD and anxiety, with learning disabilities on top of that. We just went to the doctor for a foloow up and they are changing his meds more toward bipolar disorder because of how my son acts, his dreams, and he said he hears voices. My son is definitely Asperger's but can you have all of this on top of it, and how do you manage it? They are only doing a 15 day trial, and his dad STIL thinks nothing is wrong with HIS son (we are divorced). So I do have a feeling that my son may have developed a split personality in order to handle situations over at his fathers home because there is a lot of emotional and some physical abuse. (I am in the middle of a court case). Struggling
Guest guest
Hi .. I don't know if I can offer you much help but I can offer you a support group that might help. I am bipolar and have PTSD and an Aspie son who is also 12. Their are some very knowledgeable people in the support group BiPolar World and there are quite a few ladies that are single and have autistic children like us. You maybe able to get some valuable information for the ladies that are in the group with autistic kids are single and deal with some of the problems you do. My son has violent outbursts and my ex is a raging alcoholic...whenhe is drinking he is not aloud around but when he is sober he is a sweetheart. If I were you I would try and limit your sons visits with his father if you havent already...course I understand that its what the court says that probably dictates that now.. Check out Bipolar World I have received alot of support from those people. In my case I am trying to get myself under control so I can better help my son. I dont have violent mood swings I just have a bone crushing depression over finances.. You and your son are in my prayers, Marcia ( ) Bipolar, Split Personality, with Aspergers.... Guest guest
About split personality's: Look at the book Bipolar Child at the library by Dr. Papolos or read some of what he has on line http://www.bipolarchild.com/. Some kids AS and BP will hold in their emotions at school and other places and really have meltdowns with Mom. Dr. Papolos wife has a DVD and in it there is a chapter on this behavior with Mom. Coping with AS and BP: A lot of doctors have written about how comorbid conditions are common. Dr. Kutscher has a book Kids in the Syndrome Mix that is good. To cope the mood disorder has to be under control medically. The child's behavior has to be under control. Many kids respond to behavior therapy based on positive reinforcement and a point system. It is the sort of thing that is used in special needs setting the most often. Every privelege has to be earned. It works but it is a lot of work to set up at first since it is often a big change. Hearing voices: I hope the medication works for that. I know that any mental health disorder is worse under stress. Hopefully by you providing your son with what he needs medically he will feel better and the doctor will likely be the only validation you will get. Best wishes in your son's health and recovery. Guest guest
My daughter has been diagnosed with so many different disorders and it was all stemming from her autism. She was raped when she was 12 and was bullied throughout school, especially in junior high. This caused convergence disorder. She had DID, with 5 different personalities. She had pseudo-seizures that looked like grand mal. She was once diagnosed as schizophrenic but now they think it is bipolar. We have had several different docs for her, some just threw meds at her and others had no clue what was going on. Right now we are happy with the psychologist that we have since she seems to know more about autism than any other doc we have been to. Good luck with your son and I am going to check out that site.
