Thank you to anyone who applies. > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biofilm " A biofilm is an aggregate of microorganisms in which cells are stuck to each other and/or to a surface. These adherent cells are frequently embedded within a self-produced matrix of extracellular polymeric substance (EPS). Biofilm EPS, which is also referred to as " slime, " is a polymeric jumble of DNA, proteins and polysaccharides. " This is something that happens in the lungs of people with cystic fibrosis. That's why I am familiar with the concept. Biofilms tend to be a more antibiotic resistant form of the infections which do this. The only thing I know of that has been researched for treating this is that reducing excess acidity in the body helps reverse antibiotic resistance in mucoid PA: http://healthgazelle.com/quinineandpseudomonas.shtml Michele http://www.healthgazelle.com http://www.kidslikemine.com http://www.solanorail.com
Guest guest
Biofilm is a mucousy covering that certain infectious organisms like lyme disease use to hide from the immune system. People are taking biofilm breakers then treating their lyme disease more effectively.
Guest guest
In our context here on the list I think you are referring to a biofilm in the gut. The idea is that yeast or other nasties get so thick in the gut they form a film or a crust which is hard for the treatments to penetrate. There are some companies that sell special enzymes that are suppose to break the film down, making the yeast vulnerable to treatments like capryllic acid, GSE, or prescription meds like Nystatin. Here is a link to Kirkman : http://www.kirkmanlabs.com/ViewProductDetails@Product_ID397 (DOT) aspx If you are unable to make a dent in your child's yeast and it is very severe, it might be worth looking into. We haven't tried it.
