Guest guest
Hi Roxanna- I haven't. I didn't even consider it. I'm open to suggestions tho..maybe these tics might warrant a visit to a neurologist? Thanks for the feedback. Susie > > > > Does anyone else's kids have tics associated with Asperger's. I read that it was a possibility and we are kinda new to this. My son seems to be developing a vocal tic. Maybe I dunno. He has been kinda making a smacking sound with his mouth whenever he pauses while he is talking. At first it was just a little, but it seems to be increasing over the last week. Like now multiple times in the same sentence. I don't know if it would be considered a tic or just autistic mannerisms? He also does some other things that I wonder about like roll his head around slightly. Nothing real obvious and mostly when he is talking particularly when we ask him something or he is trying to explain and more under stress for him. Conversations tend to stress him out. Any advice, and do we need to see the psychologist about this or just keep an eye on it? > > >
Guest guest
You are not alone! Yes all kids with AS have some kind of odd behavior, tics and or rituals. My son used to hump things it drove me mad but it was soothing to him he had done it since birth until he was about 8 then one day it just stopped. He is almost 13 now and still has odd movements like if he is holding something and puts it down he jerks up his arms with his hands bent down and makes a sound like a sick bird or something. He is not even aware of the things he does or sounds he makes most of the time. He also likes to only wear soft clothing such as sweat pants and in the dead of summer sleeps with about 5 blanket and comforters on his bed. Until about 4 years ago when my youngest son was born we did a long nightly bedtime ritual it had to be done before he could go to sleep. Luckily with age these things are better and I am noticing new things to take their place. I guess in some degree the behavior may ony get a little more mature? We just have to take the behaviors in stride and try to understand why they do what they do. If is something like the humping I would set boundaries about when and where used to have to do that with him spinning as well. We as parents have to give a little to get a lot from these kids. As long as they can do some of the OCD or soothing rituals with limitations they stay happy and we stay sane I have found for myself. > > > > Does anyone else's kids have tics associated with Asperger's. Guest guest
Thank you for your words of wisdom. What is a developmental Dr? We will be seeing a DAN dr. next month but I will also look into a neurologist. I think I will start to document and video it as well. Thx again!
