I watched this movie last night for the first time and I swore I was watching

Home movies of my son. He acts just like that little boy Max in the movie. I

didn't think the movie was very kid friendly as parts of it scared me. But, I

was wondering what you al thought. Does it remind you of your child(ren)?

Through all of this, I am finding that the symptoms of Aspergers Syndrome is SO

different in every kid, I just don't know how they determine from one child to

the next who really has it and who doesn't. I feel bad for my new Pediatrican

because she is so slammed with all these files and medical records for Jakob.

Its just crazy! Also, do any of you have copies of your childrens medical

records and notes from your doctors? And one last question.. lol.. I promise,

but, do any of you live around the Fredericksburg, VA area that has a child with

Aspergers Syndrome? Thanks,

We rented that movie this weekend. I had to turn it off less than halfway

through because I found it so disturbing! There were definitely aspect's of

Max's personality that reminded me of my daughter (although more and more, I'm

really leaning toward PDD-NOS than Asperger... just because she is actually

starting to mature in some social areas and doesn't have ANY regard for rules,

let alone creating rituals for herself to follow). I was watching it with my NT

4 year old while the PDD daughter was outside. I'm quite thankful, actually,

that she didn't see it. I think she would have obsessed about the 'Wild Things'

and freaked herself out to a point that she wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

Either that, or she would have fallen in love with Max and started obsessing

about him. We just took her to see How To Train Your Dragon and she's

infatuated with Hiccup. My husband got her a backpack, and she carries it around

all day talking to it. Very strange. She picks little boys, always older, that

she meets or that are in movies, and obsesses over them. She keeps one until

something else comes along. The first one I can recall was when she was about 3.

She was obsessed with Simon from Nanny McPhee. She carried that DVD cover

EVERYWHERE and had back and forth conversations with 'him'.... just like she's

doing now with the backpack and Hiccup.

But, yeah.. bottom line is that I agree with your review of Where the Wild

Things Are.

We got it to watch but haven't watched it yet! I used to read this

book to my now 21 yo ds when he was a toddler. It reminded me of him

back then too. lol.

I have so much paperwork for my ds's w/HFA. ugh. I am a master paper

trail/data keeper. lol. At least I practice what I preach.

My son on the spectrum had a very strong negative reaction to that movie. I

think he was very concerned for the boy. I also found it pretty disturbing. I

know it was an indie director and people either loved it or hated it. I believe

the monsters represented the child's emotions and they can be raw and violent.

Not a great kid movie.

“Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.” - Steve Jobs
