Guest guest
I have borrowed one from a friend. It is doing wonders with my daughter. I have been looking to see where I can purchase one and am finding them around $130. If anyone knows where to get them for less please let me know. Guest guest
A friend of mind found a site showing how to make them. I will try to get her to send me the link! Guest guest
I made a Detroit Tigers weighted blanket for my AS son last year. I used a heavy duvet and covered it with the Detroit Tigers fleece. I put flannel on the bottom side so he wouldn't get too hot. I just sewed around all the edges making a rectangle and left part of one side open and sewed in a zipper. My mother-in-law helped with that part. My son loves it! I made it about 4' x 3'. > > > > I'm thinking of getting my son a weighted blanket. Guest guest
I really like the blankets from Dream Catcher. I think the web address is dreamcatcher.com, but you can google them. > > Hello, > We are considering buying a weighted blanket for my 5 yr old DD who was just dx with HFA/AS and SPD from Magic Blanket > > Pls let me know your experiences with weighted blankets and if you saw a nice response. > thanks, > Regina >
Guest guest
Hi, We got a weighted blanket for my son and while he enjoys it very much (he always wants tons of covers on), it didn't make any difference in his behavior as far as I can tell. -Mich
Guest guest
Did you get one from Dream Catcher? I have tried to get them to answer their phone for about 2 months. My doctor sent the info she requested around Christmas, including insurance info and I have heard nothing. I've left 2 messages and had no call backs. I wondered if they were legit... Guest guest
I had a lot of problems getting in touch with Dream Catcher after I ordered a blanket over the summer. I did eventually get it, after a bunch of calls and emails. The owner told me that she had a death in the family which was why things were backed up - of course, that was back in July, so I'm not sure why the same problem would be going on now. I will say that we eventually got the blanket and lap pad (I think it took at least 2 months)and the quality is excellent. Keep after them, and hopefully you will get your blanket! Guest guest
While my daughter never had a weighted blanket when she was younger, (they didn't have them back when she was first diagnosed with autism) she loves the weight of several blankets on her now. She is 28 and has to sleep with at least 6 heavy blankets. She turns the heat down in her room so it is cooler and loves the weight of the blankets. I have been thinking of getting her one, especially in the summer. We have air conditioning and even then she still sleeps with 6 blankets. Guest guest
Reading everyone's posts helps me to understand why my son likes his covers tucked in so tight over his body he can hardly move. Sounds like he'd benefit from one of these. From: michmully <michmull@...> Sent: Sun, February 20, 2011 8:30:58 AMSubject: ( ) Re: Weighted Blankets? Guest guest
mine too- every night I go in and make a tiny hole in the corner to make sure he gets enough air. The doctor swears it isn't necessary, but I could not sleep unless I did that - my own bit of OCD tendencies I guess. I call it his cacoon. Guest guest
Does anyone with asthma use these blankets? I think my son might like one, but we've found in the past that many blankets aggravate his symptoms. > > I'm thinking of getting my son a weighted blanket.
