Guest guest
Interesting. My daughter never had jaundice...but, labor was induced. I am linking her AS to the use of a vacuum extractor at birth and where it was placedon her head at the time of birth. Her neuropsychiatrist seems to agree with me and tells me that she has seen kids much worse. Which on the other hand is very difficult to prove. Guest guest
Yes very hard to prove or disprove.... Both of my NT kids had jaundice, one was an induction with vacuum extraction and other was a emergency c-sec with cord around her neck and spent a day in NICU. My aspie kid had a textbook natural birth..short labor, no drugs, no jaundice.. I still lean to the genetic link and both my husband and me have aspie traits, me more so than him. Guest guest
It isn't clear that there is an association at all. We get this all the time on this list where a study says something is a connection and then people will write in and half will say, "A-ha!" and the other half will say, "This doesn't apply to us at all." When reading this study, I am not even sure how they came up with the correlation. If you read a few articles, you will see that they say things like: the risk goes down if the child is a first born. Well, then you read that in that country, they keep first born babies in the hospital for a few days while they send second and subsequent born children home shortly after they are born. They also extrapolated that this happens only to term babies and not to preemie babies. But again, a preemie will be kept in the hospital and therefore, get treated asap vs. a term baby who is sent home as soon as he or she is born. It's just little things like that that show problems with studies like this. I did not see anywhere that is said the effect is worse during certain years. I can't even imagine how one would come to that conclusion. Guest guest
There are so many theories out there. I've agonized over each theory that I heard about, wondering if we could have done something different to change the outcome for her. She was born when I was 40, she was induced and a dry birth, she had immunizations, they thought she might be jaundiced as a baby and learned she was not, I ate healthy meals and took prenatal vitamins while pregnant, etc. Years ago, there were plenty of women having babies at 40 and it didn't seem that there were so many children with ASDs. I love her so much and wish I could spare her the frustrations and sorrows she's already gone through. She's only nine. Take care everyone. > > I was just listtening to the news and they were saying that they now believe that Autism is somehow linked to having Jaundice as an infant, during specific years.  Did anyone else hear it? > > >  Autism Spectrum Hope~Owner > www.autismspectrumhope.com >  > Autism Society of Greater Autsin~Secretary > www.autism-society.org/chapter244 > >  >  >             >  >
