Guest guest
We have read this book and you're right, it is great. I had my daughter read it and it helped her understand a lot more.Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®From: "kerri" <kerri_bak@...>Sender: Date: Tue, 17 Aug 2010 11:43:36 -0000< >Reply Subject: ( ) Good Book: "House Rules" Hi All,I am new to the Aspie world for my 8 year old daughter was just recently diagnosed a few months ago. Among the books I have read, I just finished a good book by Jodi Picoult called " House Rules " . It is about a family dealing with a son who has Aspergers and how it affects everyone. I found many interesting similarities in him and my daughter, so obviously Jodi did her research. So...if you are looking for a good story to read try it! It is a very good fiction book! Guest guest
House Rules was an excellent book but it was so close to home that it left me in a severe depression for about 6 weeks after reading it. It did the same to my husband. Buyer beware...... Original Message ----- From: Michele Townsend Sent: Friday, August 20, 2010 9:42 PM Subject: Re: ( ) Good Book: "House Rules" How large is this book? Guest guest
: It is a long book but definitely good reading! I could see a movie made out of it. She really did her Aspie research!
Guest guest
"House Rules," for me, while well-written, was almost too much of an emotional experience. Much of it is an aspie parent's worst-case scenario. Picoult indeed did her research, however, I would say that she saddled her aspie character with almost too many characteristics of AS/HFA, as he tends to hit every sensory issue, educational issue, etc., to the extreme. Guest guest
Why - is the story very sad? Or just seeing it written down is hard to take? Guest guest
Seeing it written down, reading the description and life experiences was very hard to take. Story kinda sad too, but mainly too close to reality Re: ( ) Good Book: "House Rules" How large is this book? I tried to reserve at my local library, but it was 532 pages or 20 hours on sound discs! Guest guest
It was an excellent book and great " capturing " of our reality done in it. It was hard to take though, so be sure you're in the state of mind for it. I love that she incorporated Aspergers into one of her great stories! It's not as long as it sounds! I only get to read in the bathroom and I finished it within a week! ---- Debra Balke <dlbalke@...> wrote: > Seeing it written down, reading the description and life experiences was very hard to take. Guest guest
It looks like a good book so I put it on hold at my library. But I don't want to invite weeks of depression either. Now I'm not sure...lol. What a book report, Debra! lol.
