One website I found about vanilla stated that " if it involves test tubes, chemical extractions and a lot of words you can't pronounce, you can be pretty sure it's not natural. You simply place 3-4 vanilla beans in a jar, fill it with the vodka and put it in a cabinet for 3-4 weeks. You either have to go to the vanilla flavoring (I really don't like it), in which case you have to be very careful to make sure it is only vanilla beans, glycerine, 7 water; or , you make your own. It really only takes 2 minutes to make it, and you can make enough to last for months at a time. I make a quart each time, which lasts us about 2 months, but would probably last a normal family for 6 or more. So I make my own, and have heard of others needing to do the same due to sensitivities. Other non-grain alcohols which work okay are brandy (from wine) & rum (sugar ferment).
