Guest guest
Hi all, Just wanted to give you an update on my son, , who graduated this summer. He was offered a job at the vocational/technical school he was taking a class (graphic communications) at last year for the summer. He did a great job. Had so much fun going to work! (Can you imagine?) He worked the Monday after graduation until the 2nd week of August. He will be going to the 2nd year of the graphic comminications class this fall, so he will be in school every other day. We've been trying to find another job for him that he can do part-time. We've had no success. Last night he showed me that the teacher (once again) has asked him if he'd like to do a work-study program as well, so he'll be working on jobs while he's at school. He is limited to 30 jobs a month (which is still great!) So we are excited. So far he's been recommended to do jobs at this school and hasn't had to look (hard) for a job! He has been a great sucess since doing this class. He loves it and enjoys it so much! Just wanted to share our success. All during school I was so busy working on getting him through school to worry about working, but now he's been able to continue in his field he wishes to go in! Also, my question-what services should be made available for elementary-aged kids? My dd has been found eligible under specific learning disability and receives 450 min for resource a week (plus 60 min/week for speech) She is still doing D and F work. (This was at the end of the year). She was recommended for summer school to try and help her retain info as she has to prove she can't retain it to qualify for ESY next summer. I am REALLY concerned over this coming year as she'll be in 4th-grade. She can't retain well and is MUCH slower than most in her class. We are suspecting dyslexia (thanks to Roxanna's help) and auditory processing disorder. I am just curious if anyone knows of services that are available for after-school for homework, etc. that the school can provide. It's been so long since I've had to deal with this kind of issue, that I don't recall, and our resource center doesn't open until next week or the following week, (I believe). So I was just wondering if anyone every got help for after school Thanks, Melinda
