Again Happy Birthday, God Bless. terri g@... wrote: Well, today I have a few more creaks and groans but am thankful to be able to enjoy the day. It's my birthday and my family and friends are doing so much to make it a great day, so I'll just sit back, nap a little and enjoy. Dave is having my daughter and I receive spa facials this afternoon which will be a delight!Out of the last four years my birthday has been too great - hospital, earthquake during school with 24 first graders, and deciding it was time to give up teaching for awhile. So this year, I plan to belly up to the bar and have all the Shirley Temples I want. So there )My wish is for all of you today to have a time for you, relax, send your worries off to Oz and pamper yourself even if it's only for a bit. But do it whether I blow out my candles or not!Amy

Guest guest
Marvelous, Maggie! Very happy that all your hard work paid off for you, your family and your boy. [ ] Happy Day! I just got a letter from the school district that my son will be receiving a special honor at a ceremony for academic achievments!!!!!!!!!! He's in Kindergatren and the letter only hinted that he was receiving this award for " trying hard and succeeding " ........but I know it's because he started talking and can even write his alphabet now!!! Thank you to YOU ALL!!!!!! You have helped me sooooooo much and you have REALLY helped my son. The ceremony will be at night which means our whole family can come see it (non-believers and all) ......I'm going to cry my eyes out! xoxoxoxoxoxo Maggie

Guest guest
One of the greatest feelings I had recently is watching my 9 yeer old Aspie boy at recess. At the beginning of the school year, when I volunteered, I had a hard time encouraging him to join the other kids playing games or go and play with one other kid. Slowly but surely, I got him to play with someone for even 5 minutes. Now that it's the end of the year. He's made a close friend, and runs out and plays with his new buddies and doesn't do much as cast a glance my way. The best part of parenting is when your kid no longer needs you - they've spouted wings and are flying on their own. Laurel
Guest guest
Laurel, I can relate to your post, although I've not observed as much success yet. Did you son have trouble incorporating himself into other childrens' games? Could you ascertain why? Is it common for Aspie children to "stay on the outskirts" and observe play, rather than joining in on games at recess? Could you also tell more about how you encouraged your son to play with others? Thanks! From: Laurel <laurel8690@...>Subject: ( ) Happy day! Date: Tuesday, June 1, 2010, 1:58 PM One of the greatest feelings I had recently is watching my 9 yeer old Aspie boy at recess. Guest guest
My son is on the opposite side of the spectrum. He plays with EVERYONE--he just jumps right in and has no shyness at all! His issue is he didn't get social cues, but actuallty he is now starting to realize--but he says really odd things that other kids are like this kid is weird. He is still working on really fitting in, but he loves others and is VERY social. He never meets a stranger and we are working on getting him to NOT talk to everyone and tell them everything that they don't want to know! lol anyone hav ea kid like this? Guest guest
Absolutely! My seven-year-old is much like this and unfortunately tends to choose to play with older children which exacerbates the situation. I am grateful that he is social, yet the learning curve is steep. One thing I did is draw a paper with concentric circles, from self to out. Then he filled in names or people for each circle. The inner circle has immediate family, next circle teachers/cousins/classmates, and so forth until the outer circles are " librarians, store clerks, strangers " . Then we discussed what type of information is appropriate to share with each. It did help and being such a visual learner, he remembered the image. -Mich ---- K <kristalstamper@...> wrote: > My son is on the opposite side of the spectrum. Guest guest
Can you report this problem to the school supervisors? Principal, superintendent? They should be having teachers monitor him. Guest guest
My older son was like that. We had to do a lot of teaching around boundaries, appropriateness etc. As he has gotten older, now 19, he is a little more reserved. Pam In a message dated 6/2/2010 8:39:42 A.M. Guest guest
Wow. I would ask to see the school's bullying policy and also tell them they must have a policy against being punched in the face every day. Can he play in the computer room for recess or something? The school should be protecting him. Roxanna Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again. Re: ( ) Happy day! Hey ya. Yes my son is like this. He wants to go to school, mainly for the girls!
