Great to hear it, Jan! Good luck with the girl in the Fall. I'm sure you will make a difference in her life!Sent via BlackBerry by AT&TFrom: "jan" <jrushen@...>Sender: Date: Thu, 24 Jun 2010 01:33:56 -0000< >Reply Subject: ( ) Just got Great News! Hi everyone...I am so excited. My son is now Proficient in Reading on the PSSA tests. Since 3rd grade he has been behind in reading by about 2 years. I requested he get in the Reading Program and this started in 5th grade (late). He then got a horrible teacher in 6th grade and she recommended he not continue. He was re-tested in 7th and was put back in....he just finished 8th grade and he is Proficient and just below reaching Advanced. He finished the highest in his class. I am so proud for a change and it feels so good. He won the prize of a $50.00 gift certificate from his teacher. Wow! I now know how good it feels to be so proud ... for a change. And, just so everyone knows...I will be working with an autistic girl in school in the fall. She will be in the intermediate school and this is a new assignment for me. I went to a 2 day training ....but to tell you the truth...I knew everything already. So, I may be picking some of your brains for help. I just hope I can deal with it as my son who is 14 has Asperger's....so I will be surrounded 24/7. LOL. I hope I can help and make a difference for this child. jan

I can so appreciate the effort involved in him catching up in his reading scores! The first year we focused on my ds's reading skills (he has dyslexia), I counted it up and he spent 3 extra hours per day in some form of tutoring, reading related practice or therapy. But it really made a difference. Still, I wouldn't want to have to go through it again! lol.

I have a good thing to share - my ds (13 yo, HFA) - made the honor roll again this past year. He got his certificate in the mail the other day and I showed it to him with lots of "WAY TO GO!'s" added. He smiled and said, "Thanks Mom. I couldn't have done it without you!" It was really cute. And nice of him to notice I sorta helped. <g>
