Guest guest
Hi Bridget, I just finished reading "All I can Handle" I'm no Mother , by Kim Stagliano. Kim has 3 autistic daughters. Usually when I read at night, I fall asleep in about 5 minutes, but I actually stayed up for a couple of hours 2 nights in a row to finish this book. It's really just a memoir about her family and the things they have gone thru, but it helped me put my life in perspective. I laughed so hard at some points & cried at others. Anyone of us in this group that reads the book will be able to relate to many of the things she writes about. I highly recommend it. I just read "Look Me in the Eye" by Robison, which was pretty good and got me interested in reading more books written by people on the spectrum for their first person insights. Guest guest
I read the book, "Look Me In the Eye" earlier this year and saw Temple Grandin's movie. They were both helped me understand the world through the eyes of an Aspie child. The movie "Adam" was also very informative. It's about an adult AS male making it on his own after his father dies. You get to see him struggle through having a male/female relationship and finding and keeping a job.As a single mom raising as AS child I also found inspiration from movies like "Journey of a Heart" and "Miracle Run." The next book on my reading list is "Louder than Words: A Mother's Journey in Healing Autism". Did anyone read that book? If so, did you find it helpful? Guest guest
I read "Louder than Words," by McCarthy. I couldn't really relate, as I felt her child had a lot of severe medical issues, and mine doesn't. And her healing seems more about that than healing autism. It was still a good story but I don't think people should take hope that autism can be cured using her methods.SuzanneSent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®From: Oforiwa <oforiwa27@...>Sender: Date: Mon, 22 Nov 2010 03:01:25 -0800 (PST)< >Reply Subject: Re: ( ) Temple Grandin books I read the book, "Look Me In the Eye" earlier this year and saw Temple Grandin's movie. Guest guest
I LOVED that book. I have read a few autism books and I have found some of her pointers to be the best when Maddie is pushing my buttons. Mom to my 4 girls Madeline, Cayla, Arabella, & Vincenza "You are the TRIP I did not take You are the PEARLS I cannot buy You are the blue Italian LAKE YOU are my piece of foreign SKY" ---Anne ---- ( ) Temple Grandin books Hi everyone - I was wondering if any of you have read Temple Grandin's books and if you have a particular favorite?
