My son would run out of the room, terrified when almost any cartoon was on. This stopped about a year ago (at age 5.5). I wasn't able to figure out if he sensed something bad was going to happen or if the music sent him running or what. We've only been able to watch 1 disney movie - cars but he won't even try to watch anything else.

Also he has a strong aversion to stuffed animals. The bother him alot and pigs and pandas! lol. I have no idea why. He can't even do math worksheet if there is a picture of a pig or a panda on it. He puts a big X thru it or cuts it out or we have to skip it all together. Good thing we started homeschooling last month where I can allow that!

( ) Unreasonable fears??

I was wondering if any of your AS children have unreasonable fears??? My daughter keeps coming to me sang things like " let me get on your lap, the world is breaking" or, mommy is the floor going to break??? Or, mommy are we going to get a flat tire?? Or mommy, do we have enough gas?? It just seems like for a four year old she sure worries a lot....CarolynSent from my iPad

For my 9 yo son it is stuffed animal heads....I just posted about this on

another thread. This also reminded me of the time he got so upset about new

pictures they hung up in the kitchen @ his Dad's. When I questioned his Dad

about it he said it was a group of 3 small pictures and one had a guy tossing

pizza. He was so upset about those pictures. He has a new fear of going

shirtless....this started after his last doc appt. He has always had issues

with anyone touching his chest (which is an issue when someone is trying to

tickle him and he gets so mad at them), so I don't know If it is part of that?

He also doesn't like smiling for pictures, which can be embarrassing when you

child flat out refuses. If someone smiles at him he can get funny about it! It

can be so hard to understand!

Oh, and all the worry comes out at bedtime...if the wind blows he starts

worrying about tornados....even in the middle of winter (tornado drills @ school

have been know to upset him along with fire drills). He will also start

questioning me on what if we have a fire! Sometimes I worry about OCD....

My son used to say some things like that. If I would seem unsure of where we were going in the car he would say " are we lost?". Also was afraid of once when my husband's truck stalled out ( they were in a safe place) and was afraid of running out of gas and afraid we were going to get pulled over by a cop.Sent via DROID on Verizon Wireless ( ) Unreasonable fears?? My son is the opposite with shirts. He almost always goes shirtless at home. He also finds one type of clothing he likes and sticks with it. Used to wear only athletic pants, now wears only cargo pants...Sent via DROID on Verizon Wireless ( ) Re: Unreasonable fears?? My ds did that - excessive anxiety, OCD-ish. It took meds to help him stop.

Yes my son too had unreasonable fears starting at about the age of three. He was

so scared of the furance, air vents and smoke alarms. I read a couple books on

OCD therapies and what seemed to work for us was confrontation. In the privacy

of our own home whenever the fears were expressed, I would have him poke and

yell at the very thing he was afraid of saying " I am not scared of you, you

silly little ----- " . Sometimes he was so scared that he couldn't do it, so I

would do it to show him there was nothing to be afraid of. It worked the fears

lessened, of course now that he is on meds the irrational fears have for the

most part dissappeared. Good luck!

My son seems to think that " monsters " are coming to get him and we have to make

sure to close his closet at night and he also seems to be irrationally afraid of

birds and frogs. He has never even been up close with a bird so I don't know

where this came from and we sometimes get frogs in our yard but they jump away

from him so who knows.

My daughter is afraid of certain fruits (especially oranges)and vegetables; for

some reason, onion peels terrify her. She's also afraid of roosters. To my

knowledge, she's never had an experience with a rooster, so I guess it's just

the way they look? She's also scared of elevators and stairs, although she has

come a long way with those.

My son use to have a fear that we would run out of gas. If I let the car get under 1/2 tank he would bug me to death saying I needed to get gas now, that we were ging to run out! That stopped about when he was 8. He has always had a fear of bugs and deseases or illnesses, or injuries. Just the other day he fell backwards and bent his finger back real hard. He swore for three days that it was broken or fractured! ne
