I have same problem he claims there bugs are in his blanket. Or in his room and we check there no bugs. I once had a roommate who kept feeling like something was crawling on her. The doc thought that she had picked up a microscopic lice most probably at a movie theater. We had to delouse ourselves and all our linens then spray all the soft surfaces in our house. I had to delouse even though we didn't share a room just in case I picked it up from her.>> My four year old has been complaining about ants crawling all over him, but clearly there isn't. He doesn't have dry skin, he wears loose fitting clothes (he can't stand tighter clothes), he bathes regularly. But I can't figure it out! Any ideas at to what this could be would be greatly appriceted. I've also called him primary and am waiting on that doc to call back.>

my child was complaining about this and it turned out to be a side effect of the medication he was taking.

My 4yo daughter complains of the exact same thing. We saw the PCM and we saw an allergist- they had no clue. I still have no idea other than possible sensory issue.>> My four year old has been complaining about ants crawling all over him, but clearly there isn't. I get that reaction to the perfumes in some laundry soaps.  I also get that reaction when I eat something with chicken egg white in it.  That doesn't mean your child has those allergies, but it could be an allergic reaction.  Also, some people get skin itching as a symptom of diabetes.

Just post college I was tired of acne so I went to a dermatologist. At the time I didn't no it but he put me on a powerful antibiotic called SEPTRA which is a combo sulfa drug. After taking it for almost a year (yes it worked) I unknowlingly developed an alergy to it. I would wake up about a half an hour after taking it with an ichy feeling all over my body that could be described as having ants crawling all over you. Because I didn't take the drug every night (I'd forget a lot) it took me about weeks to figure out what it was.

Later I told my family doc about it and he was not happy that the doctor had left me on an antibiotic that long. But the alergy definately manifested itself as a terrible itchiness. Warm baths helped a little bit but not anything else. Only time and physical exhaustion over came it.

So if your ASPIE is on any meds that would be my first guess as a potential source of the ants issue.

Well after two trips to the ER (one upon his Pedi's direction). The most we've come up with is either Hypersentivity or like you said a possible sensory issue. The only new thing is not he's changes it from ants to spiders. I personally am inclined to think that its a sensory issue only cause firday night I tried to put lotion on him just to really rule out dry skin and he screamed blody murder. I have never heard a child scream like that over just lotion, and he did tell me the lotion made the ants angry. We are going to see his physcologist this week so hopefully we'll get an answer.

Discontinue all lotions and see what happens. Allergies can develop to the ingrediants in lotions. In fact lotions have been partially blamed for the increase in peanut allergies. If he has to use lotions go with something completely organic. Also note that the "fragrance" in lotions can be composed of anything under the sun. They do not have to report what is in the fragrance.

Hope you find out whatever it is.

Thank you for that idea... I'll try that. We were using Aveno baby lotion (the fragrance free) but I will give it a break and see what happens. If its something that easy it would be nice!
