Hi everyone; My daughter was recently diagnosed with HF Asperger's. She is 6 and a half. We are still going through the evaluation process. The initial diagnosis came from a psychologist. Our daughter was in a private Montessori Kindergarten and they did not have any resources for us other than a calm environment. It was very difficult to work with the school system to have her evaluated. By the time we lined up some OT and developmental pediatrician appts, we were moving across country. The OT decided that she was fine. We never got in to see the dev pediatrician. We just moved to California and already I am blown away by the resources that seem to be available to us here. She is doing a repeat year of Kindergarten and while her new teacher is concerned with her behaviors and learning style, he seems to think that we will be able to tap in to all sorts of programs to get her up to speed. It feels like we are starting over. But that is good. I keep reminding myself that she is young. I feel like the last year was wasted on shuffling paperwork, but I really am excited to have a fresh start, fresh pair of eyes and a community that takes it seriously.Have spent the last 4 years posting on the Highly Sensitive Child posting board. Many of the kids are described as "quirky" and some of the parents have been seeing a rise in HSC's being diagnosed on the spectrum.I have no idea what I am doing, but I hope I am just being her champion and giving lots of love.Look forward to meeting other parents and caregivers here!Best wishes,Jess Out West
Guest guest
Welcome Jess out West! Your story sounds almost the same as ours including the Montessori part and then moving across the country. We came from MI and moved to CA 3 years ago. Glad to hear you are finding good resources so fast! What part of CA are you in? If you're near San Diego let me know, I'd be happy to share more resources with you. Again, welcome! SoCal Val ( ) Introduction - Newbie to the group.
