Guest guest
neither, go directly to a psychiatrist that specializes in asd. If you live near or close to a research hospital like Stanford, Mayo Clinic, etc. call and see if they have a doc that specializes in autism. my sons pediatrician never thought there was anything wrong with my son. the pyschologist that we saw for a year, didnt even know what asd was until i gave him some research. you need a specialist, someone familiar with asd and then you can switch back to a normal doc. but we did that and it doesnt really work. it was amazing going to the research hospitals with schools. they really know and help. Hello. Our 7 y/o son was given a diagnoses of dyspraxia and vestibular dysfunction in August 2010. He goes to private OT once/week. At OT we also completed the CARS2 for high functioning autism and his score indicates "severe symptoms of autism spectrum disorder". We want to get further testing to see if there something really there that has not been diagnosed yet. Based on experience, do you recommend we take him to a child psychologist or to a developmental pediatrician for testing? Thanks for your help. Guest guest
Definately either a pediatric neurologist, developmental peditrican or when he is 9 a neuropsychologist will be able to do a full neuropsychological evaluation that will detect any attentional issues and other learning disorders. And this last evaluation is really helpful when schools argue that a child doesn't need services. The school often pays for these kind of tests, some people have it paid for and others pay themselves rather than wait for the school to be reasonable. A psychologist will be very little help. Schools for the most part will not accept their opinions they often want a Medical doctor. The neurpsychogist is hard to dispute all there testing is standardized. School tests and IQ tests any a small part of the picture. Pam Pam > > Hello. Our 7 y/o son was given a diagnoses of dyspraxia and vestibular dysfunction in August 2010.
