Guest guest
OMG! I thought we were the only ones! My MIL says I'm going to give my little guy an eating complex, but she hasn't witness him eat a stick of butter or even a handful of uncooked oatmeal. I am so glad I am a member of this board. Guest guest
When my stepson lived with us for 7 years we had to put licks on all the good cabinets & the freezer & refrigerator. He would eat anything & hide food everywhere. At his grandmother's house he drank her Ensure when he couldn't find anything else! Now he is living with his mother & she was worried about his weight gain. I told her that hecis stealing & hiding food & eating in the middle of the night. She says he isn't, but I went & searched her house I would find food & wrappers. I know where to look. We even kept snack food locked in our bedroom closet. Our other son has his treats locked in his room!Sent from my iPhoneBlessings, DonnaOn Mar 17, 2010, at 4:38 PM, Byrne <kabob@...> wrote: That is totally me!!! Guest guest
The one thing that I am thankful for, she is learning I guess. She's working really hard at controlling it from what I can tell. She's asking at least if she can have these things. And when she will ask for ice cream at a restaurant and I tell her no, I will say have some ice water instead. I'm wondering if its a sensory thing. She will say I NEED TO CHEW, so I give her gum. I try to have plenty of gum on hand instead. Its something we've been working on hard and I'm relieved to know its not just us. We have notes taped to the cabinets that say, "Did you ask for permission" So we can keep track of what shes eating. Its really hard and I feel bad that I have to monitor her so much. I also put it back on her. If I can't trust you to control how much your eating and the kinds of things your eating, then I have to do it for you. Shes overly independent. But like I said it works for a lil bit she will obsessively ask for food and then suddenly its like she can't take it anymore and starts getting into stuff. Guest guest
seriously I am so glad I posted this. I really was starting to feel like I was alone and that I was majorly screwing up and it was my fault!!! Why are the doctors so in the dark about this behavior. I keep asking them and they just shrug it off. I DO NOT WANT MY CHILD TO BE 300 LBS!! And had I let her gain a ton of weight and allowed her to eat then they 'd be knocking on my door screaming abuse. *sigh* the system is so screwed up.....
