Guest guest
As normal childcare would be embarressing (13 year old is generally too old for that, I get that he needs childcare though) what about getting a cool college aged kid to do it? Should work for the summer. I don't feel comfortable leaving him home alone until I get back from work (it would be from 2 to 7pm). I'm not living in the area yet (plan to move this summer) and I was hoping for some feedback and recommendations as I get started on my relocation. This would be for the Rockville/Bethesda ares. Guest guest
Check into respite care hours from your Community Support Center. Also, check with the school, they may have a mentoring program which would hook him up with an upperclassman who can get credits for hanging out with him after school. Check with the Social Worker at school to find out if they have any after school programs (clubs, gym-jams, open music hall, small group gabs etc.) and if they don't.. recommend they start! Guest guest
Over the summer there are a lot of CAMPS in both locally and nationally. My county parks system runs some therapeutic camps that are very cheap with good ratios, and just about every county in the area does the same. Then there are some non-profits that do overnight camps. If you are Christian, Young Life Capernaum often does short overnight stuff. A lot of daycare centers put limits on the maximum age. I think my state mandates age restriction to keep older kids from being mixed with young ones. I would contact local Aspergers/Autism support groups in the area you are moving to and find out from them if they know of any after school options. Also, you might contact some of the private schools that work with spectrum kids and see if they offer anything or have any suggestions. Personally, I think the eventual solution might be to find someone in a private home who is willing to watch him for a few hours after school, but you'll have to live there a while first. - > > Hi - any suggestions for afterschool programs or nanny services for a HFA middle-schooler?
