Guest guest
I would just use the goodnites pullups for older kids on him at night. My niece who does not have AS always had a bedwetting problem until she was about 10. She just was a deep sleeper, or had a smaller bladder, I don't know, but she did outgrow it eventually. But instead of doing laundry every night and giving your son more stress, I would go this route. There is not much else you can do that you haven't already tried. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Suzanne suzmarkwood@... From: TinaLynn <tlledvina@...>Subject: ( ) Bed wetting 2-3 times a night..... Date: Sunday, July 18, 2010, 4:42 PM It took forever to get my son potty trained. I had to send him to kindergarten in pull ups because I was afraid he was going to have an accident. He also had trouble with pooping & would hold it because when he did go it would be huge & hurt really bad. He was put on Miralax over the past 6 months and that seemed to help alot. My biggest problem now is bed wetting 2-3 times a night. He has always struggled with wetting the bed. Over the last year my husband and I had him not wetting the bed for 6 months and then it went back to 2-3 times a night. ( I believe a stressful incident triggered it) but everything we do seems to fail. We do not give him a drink past a certain time, we make him go to the bathroom before bed, my husband will wake him up at 11 pm and again at about 3 am so he won't have an accident and it still doesn't help. Any suggestions would be great! I feel like the laundry lady!!
Guest guest
My son 8.5 has that same issue. Stressful events and changes in schedules seem to make his bed wetting worse. I ended up taking him to a uriologist who measured his bladder before having him go to the bathroom, then again after. The ultrasound that was done showed that my son is only emptying his baldder halfway when he goes pee. My son feels that his bladder is empty when it is not. This is tied into a condition where his urethral opening did not grow in diamater when it shoud have. So he will be having a surgery on Tuesday to enlarge his urethral opening which should help him empty his bladder properly. I do not remember the medical term for this, but it is very common. This bed wetting issues goes hand in hand with chronic constipation. My son has also been put on Miralax. After the surgery on Tuesday, my son will be put on a schedule of intake and output (bladder/bowel retraining) which I am told should take about 6 months. I will know more Tuesday. One thing that the uriologist told me is that it does not matter when my son's last drink was if he is not able to fully empty his bladder, and that when he can fully empty his bladder regular bowel habits will follow. I hope this helps. From: TinaLynn <tlledvina@...>Subject: ( ) Bed wetting 2-3 times a night..... Date: Sunday, July 18, 2010, 11:42 PM It took forever to get my son potty trained. Guest guest
My non-aspy daughter wore pull-ups at night till she was about 8. She is small of her age and we figured her bladder just wasn't big enough. We never stressed over it and she finally just started having dry pull-ups in the mornings. I quit buying them and that was the end of it. My advice is to put him in pull-ups or goodnights and then ya'll can all get a good night's sleep.DeanaSent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®From: "TinaLynn" <tlledvina@...>Sender: Date: Sun, 18 Jul 2010 23:42:55 -0000< >Reply Subject: ( ) Bed wetting 2-3 times a night..... Guest guest
I didn't see how old your son is, but mine is a giant 4-yr old, and the regular pampers baby dry size 6 still fit him. I put one of those on him every night. They are drier and hold more pee (at least seems so to me), so that's my suggestion for now. -- From: TinaLynn <tlledvina@...>Subject: ( ) Bed wetting 2-3 times a night..... Guest guest
I don't post much anymore as my son is almost 23...but for those who are struggling with bedwetting, I would encourage you to use the goodnite pullups as Suzanne has mentioned. My son had a problem with wetting at night till he was nearly 13...he actually went away on weekend overnight trips, as we figured out a way to hide the fact that he needed the pullups. Now that he is nearly 23, we are struggling with the "job thing" and not sure what to do. He did go to a trade school after high school and was employed part-time for over two years. He lost that job and has been unable to find anything else in our area...it's discouraging. He really needs to go to a college or post-secondary program that would help him learn to live on his own and have a job skill. Overall, things are okay except for needing employment...he's a great young man and is working on an idea for a radio show that he's been developing with two friends. Guest guest
My daughter is 9.5 and still wets the bed every night. It does not matter whether we limit her fluid intake or use the bathroom right before bed, she still wets. She wears Goodnights and only has an occasional leak. We tried waking her up during the night, but she was so sound asleep that we had to drag her to the bathroom. Our hope is that she will eventually outgrow this. Guest guest
yep, it is a waste for me to always change clothes, sheets, etc and us all to lose sleep over it, my 10 yr old wears underjams (pampers version of goodnights, they are apparantely softer or so dd says) to bed. i still believe she will outgrow it as my sister and cousin were very late outgrowing it, they were 12 or 13ish On Mon, Jul 19, 2010 at 1:22 PM, <pltoc@...> wrote: I don't post much anymore as my son is almost 23...but for those who are struggling with bedwetting, I would encourage you to use the goodnite pullups as Suzanne has mentioned. Guest guest
We had problems with Dillon wetting the bed until he was 6. We thought it was under control until last week when we started finding wet bedding again. He didn't tell us and because he makes his own bed, we didn't notice it until he brought his sheets to use to wash. The overwhelming smell of urine was the only hint. So we'll be talking to his psychologist on Thursday. Laurie In a message dated 7/19/2010 7:14:10 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, mbaet@... writes: My daughter is 9.5 and still wets the bed every night. Guest guest
Gail, we are in same boat, DS is 26. He ended up going to Job Corps and getting culinary training. If your son is interested in Job Corps, I think the cutoff is 24. Our son was not college level in academics. Voc Rehab has helped some, they at least send him weekly job list of entry level positions. What does son want to do? Any skills? DS send out and applied for at least 70 positions before he got this part time job as prep cook. It is unbelievably hard right now, even for the entry level stuff. Guest guest
I want to thank everyone who posted !I should have stated that my son is 9 1/2 years old. Reading everyone's responses was a huge help and I realized I am not alone in this struggle of bed wetting. I HAVE bought my son goodnights and it took him a couple of days to get used to them but now he is in a routine when it's time for bed he will put them on with no problems. He says they are uncomfortable but he likes the fact that he doesn't wake up soaking wet. On the positive side he has gone a couple times without wetting his goodnight!!! I should of done this sooner! I think he feels better too. Thanks everyone!TinaTina Lynn Ledvina There's a silver lining behind every cloud and a rainbow after every storm. Guest guest
I am a parent of an Aspie, so that is why I get these posts. But thought it might make you feel better to know - I am a 42 yr old NT female, I wet the bed til I was 12 yrs old. Then, one day, I just stopped. I remember waking up one night to go to the bathroom and I was surprised. Every once in awhile, I still did it after that, but it became rarer and rarer. The dr told my mom back-then that I would outgrow it and that is exactly what happened. Also, my youngest son had a NT friend, also who wet the bed til he was about 11 years old and again, he just stopped. I know of others as well, but what I am trying to say is that bed-wetting happens across the board, among neurotypical kids and aspies alike and they all, (about 99%) outgrow it. Good luck.
