Guest guest
Susie, I have a big packet of info. I can send on gaps if you can send me your reg. email address. I don’t want to upload it onto this whole site… thanks. From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of susieinms Sent: Thursday, November 05, 2009 11:05 AM Subject: [ ] Which book(s) to get for GAPS? Hi all! I am in the process of making an order to start my dd on GAPS. We have limited funds and need to do this a cheaply as possible. If you have done the GAPS can you tell me which book(s) is/are necessary? Which is most beneficial and you just can't do without: Gaps Guide Book and/or GAPS? I am starting my 4 1/2 yo dd on this as soon as I get all my ducks in a row. She has had severe chronic constipation ever since her first bite of solid food at 4 1/4 mos. I feel like it is from a combo of Celiac and the antibiotics that were given to me while in labor with her. I have just started fermenting veggis a couple weeks ago, broths a few months ago, and am awaiting Kombucha mushroom and Kefir grains (water and milk). I am very excited about our new way of life! Any suggestions you have for me are welcome and appreciated!! Susie ~
Guest guest
Oh, one more thing… I think the bio kult and baby probiotics (baby biotics) are def. worth it even though expensive. Especially when you don’t have time to make the kefit/kombuchaetc. Too, there is also a cabbage rejuvelac you can make which you don’t need anything to get started but cabbage. I have a recipe if you would like it. Too, cabbage is cheapJ. The veggies will def. help her system. In the meantime, maybe try to get her on as many veggies as possible. If your DD is anything like mine (and I haven’t tried to implement gaps on my kids – have made changes for self as thankfully my girls are doing okay) but I have heard some people make types of smoothies that may be more kid friendly. That may be a good way to make it a fun way to eat veggies – all mixed up in a green drink just like the green eggs and ham bookJ. (or, whatever you want to say to make it fun!). Guest guest
I feel a stool analysis by a Naturopathic Doctor is important. My son was also constipated from infancy after starting solid foods and only after stool analysis was performed did we identify the source of the problem (yeast). Also, we could not get rid of the yeast by just doing the GAPS diet; he had to do a two month course of Nystatin. On Nov 5, 2009, at 8:46 AM, Head wrote: Susie,I have a big packet of info. Guest guest
Thank you ladies!, I am about to send you an email. :)I have my reserves about BioKult because of the malto dextrine. My dd has an intolerance to gluten and we have been taught to avoid anything with malt in the name or ingredients list. I do have VSL#3 which is theraputic strength. I will continue her on that until it runs out and then re-evaluate. If I find that, in time, we see no improvement we may go for additional testing. But right now it is one or the other. We have no option to do both, so we decided to go with the diet. I am glad to meat you ladies!! Guest guest
I found the juicing was really helpful for my son and it's recommended in the GAPS book. Juicing and bone-in broth are probably the two things that really made a huge difference for him. Juicers are expensive though, although the holidays are coming so maybe you could add it to your wish list! I've used the Omega juicer which is good and a lot of people seem to like the Breville. On Nov 5, 2009, at 8:55 AM, Head wrote: Oh, one more thing… I think the bio kult and baby probiotics (baby biotics) are def. worth it even though expensive. Guest guest
In this area we are blessed! Several years ago, before I ever conceived my 4 yo, I got very sick. Juicing was part of what healed me! I am blessed to have a Champion Juicer and a mill attatchment. My kids also got together and bought me a Vitamix that same year for Christmas! If it weren't for some of these things already being in my life (juicing, fermenting, broths) I think I would be totally overwhelmed by GAPS. I know with patience, practice, organization and lots of prayer...I CAN DO THIS! >>> <<< Big huge grin!!
