My prayers are with you...you must get him to his Doctor or the hospital...he probably needs to be observed and cared for at a clinic ...maybe he needs meds....but this can't be and you need help...I don't mean forever but I think he needs to be evaluated...ASAP

I am so worried about n. I know you guys are probably tired of me complaining. n is hurting himself and I don't know how to keep him from it. He has been biting himself, trying to pull out his eyebrows and hitting his head against the wall. I don't know what to do. I am going today to talk to his mental health therapist. I'm not really sure if she can do anything but I want to talk to her just to let her know what's been going on. Also, he has been throwing more tantrums and his behavior is getting worse. he is really active like he is always going, going, going. All day yesterday he was up and going. I don't think he say down for more than 5 minutes at a time. I just don't know what is going on with him. I am just worried :(

This is not something I dealt with but from listening to other people I am

wondering if it is possibly a sensory issue and maybe you need to see an

occupational therapist that specializes in sensory issues. If it is

sensory-related, a mental health therapist probably won't know much about what

is going on.

You should look for a behavioral therapist to help you design a program

to limit the self injurious behaviors. You could also see the doctor

to make sure things are going ok otherwise and then discuss meds.

Actually, I would recommend doing both. And nobody is tired of you

Thanks!! He will be seeing a doctor probably next week at his school. He is in a day clinic where he gets all his therapies and he is in a pre-K room. I really think he should be on meds. They said he probably will be diagnosed with ADHD since he's on the spectrum. I hope it will help him. From: Roxanna <MadIdeas@...>Subject: Re: ( ) n is hurting himself Date: Monday, August 31, 2009, 10:47 PM

Poor kid, I am sorry to he is so stressed out. Any ideas what triggered this? It

sounds like very high anxiety. How much of his day is this going on? My daughter

bites me when she is very stressed. It is often if she is being rushed. I had

good luck this summer with zoloft for her. There was not a major change, but

some improvement in mood. We have been increasing the dose extremely slowly

because she is so sensitive.

I would not be surprised if your son is hurting himself often

that a MD would prescribe a mild tranquiler like xanax to calm

him quickly. Also many AS kids are prescribed rispedal.

I would ask if the dose could be started very very small to start

and increase slowly if this is an option. Some kids look so

sedated on medication because it takes awhile to get use to it.

I freak out seeing anybody like that. It scares me. For my sake

it has been better to go slow. My daugher has had some tremors

in her legs and hands but it didn't last long.

I hope he feels better.

This does sound like he is really stressed out, probably only echoing everyone else, can you identify anything that maybe triggering the behaviour, does it happen at certain times of the day, for example is it happening after school, it could be that after trying to control himself for a long period he kinda explodes to release the pressure. Once you have identified the causes it may be easier to reduces this behaviour. Poor boy I hope you get answers quickly.

My son has bad eczema, I have noticed if he is under any pressure he starts to scratch, he has particularly bad scratches up both arms, I am starting to think this may be his way of self harming. We have tried allsorts of lotions and potions, bandages, but the scratching never goes away. Anyone any ideas?

Hi,I have the same problem with my girl. Yesterday she got nerves in the first day of school and she pinched herself until bleed. How chaotic is your house? do you have other children? try to create a relaxing atmosphere at home, no yelling, no television, no talking negative, etc...If you have another children it is harder..... Try Music Therapist....Enroll him in music class.Try Karate or other martial art class. He will learn self discovery and self controlTalk to you doctor he might need medication or medication adjustment.Ask you doctor for a complete neurological evaluation to eliminate seizures and other disorders.Talk to you therapist and if he keeps hurting himself, change to another therapist with more experience. If you son is really hurting himself very badly the doctor could suggest to hospitalize him to give him several test and have a full medical and psychiatry evaluation.Sensory issues also should be look for as well as anxiety, depression and medical problems. My daugther is treated by a team of professionals working together and her problems are under control, she still hurts herself but no too often as before..Hurting himself is serious serious and you she be very concern....Good luck ( ) Re: n is hurting himself>> I am so worried about n.
