Guest guest
My son is 15 and was just diagnosed with pdd. I am so tired of yelling at him, so tired of all the theatrics, so tired of him being bullied, tired of his inappropriate comments, so tired of his inappropriate behavior, his lying, most important of him hurting. I worry I might find him harming himself even though he's being seen by a psychiatric dr. The dr told us its a hugh functioning form of aspergers. Guest guest
Yup...I have a 15 year old son in 9th grade. He is having a lot of social difficulties and anger issues. His hormones are raging and he is almost 6' tall now. Tall and thin. He wont' get a haircut (the girls all love his hair) but it is constanly in his eyes and I think he is hiding behind it. He hates school and won't do homework or study. Guest guest
My son is 14 and some things are easier but other things are more difficult! What a rollercoaster. He's less aggressive and has more impulse control now than ever before but he's moody and argumentative and refuses to do some things. He's gotten to a point where he's much more upset by losing than he had been for a while. He's never been great with losing but it's much worse now than it was for a few years. We bowled last Friday and it did not end well. Miriam > > I have a 12.5 year old that started puberty last summer and our whole life has > been turned up side down. Guest guest
I too have a son who is now 14 and like others, has gotten more moody, arguementative and disrespectful at times. This started about the time he turned 12 and is kind of leveling out now....at least I hope. I've also noticed that he seems more rigid in his thinking on some things. Almost to the point of being judgemental. It has been a very difficult last few years. The school however played a big part in making things worse than I think they would have been otherwise. ne From: mimasdprofile <callis4773@...>Subject: ( ) Re: Aspie Teens Date: Tuesday, March 22, 2011, 6:08 PM My son is 14 and some things are easier but other things are more difficult! Guest guest
I have a 15 yr old with AS. Things are not too bad as long as we don't create many changes. He has a few chores, he doesn't want to clean a whole lot though. Once we tried taking away computer games as punishment maybe about a yr ago and he had such a bad tantrum that we were actually scared for him. So we don't do that anymore... I don't know if anyone has a child that likes to "cuddle" but we will sit on the couch together and watch tv and I will rub his back and he loves sharing that time with me. I am so glad we have this connection I know it can be hard for a mom to be close with a teen son. He will sometimes even grab my arm like it is a teddy bear and not let me go anywhere. :-) We also give him a weekly allowance now which is payment for him to continue doing his chores.Sent via DROID on Verizon Wireless ( ) Aspie Teens> > > anyone here have teens with Aspergers?> I am looking for other people dealing with teens and how they are dealing with > some of the issues that seem to be harder because of the Aspergers>

Guest guest
I have a 15 yr old son in 10th grade. He loves school. I think he likes the routine of it and the fact that he gets a bit of social interaction there. He's an only child so no peer interaction at home. Starting in middle school he stopped making any effort at having friends. He says he's okay with not having friends. I'm worried that its his reaction to being excluded by his peers. (Something similar happened in kindergarten when he realized he wasn't being invited to bday parties anymore.) We try to make up for it by doing things as a family - going to museums, going on hikes, going out to dinner. But now that he's a teenager getting him out of the house is a challenge (except going out to eat). So the other day I offered him two choices - extra chores while I went out for a walk or he could join me. He joined me on my walk. We actually have some good conversations on our walks. It's just getting him out the house that's the hassle. In some ways it's harder to deal with him - wants more independence, is more stubborn - very typical teenager. In other ways now that he's older we can sometimes help him by discussing an issue with him. When he was younger no amount of discussion helped. There are days when I think he's going to be okay and that he can handle things once he's an adult. Then there are days that totally prove me wrong. Luckily those wrong days are getting less frequent. Guest guest
Hi Theresa, I have a teenage son with Aspergers. He just turned 19 years old and he is still in high school (this is his junior year). The last few years have been quite trying with him. What types of problems are you experiencing? ~k > > anyone here have teens with Aspergers? > I am looking for other people dealing with teens and how they are dealing with some of the issues that seem to be harder because of the Aspergers >
Guest guest
WEll, at least your son has a goal and mission and some interests. Mine is just interested in being social...lol! He has a few friends and now likes girls...omg. He has absolutely no intrests other than Music. He is in band but lately doesn't go to lessons and is not participating in class. He does want his college friend to stay with us this summer...so that will be my bargaining chip. As for his hair...I think he likes to cover his eyes...and he doesn't like his bushy eyebrows...but won't let me tweeze them or have them waxed. He has really thinned out but thinks he is fat. I can't deal with that on top of everything else. Guest guest
My son likes one girl. She is my daughter's 13 yr old best friend though... He is not making this common knowledge I just know about it from the girl and her mother. I heard that he actually told the girl although he likes her, he feels she is too young to date. I have never known for him to be thoughtful of other people's feelings. This is a whole other side to him I have never seen before!Sent via DROID on Verizon Wireless ( ) Aspie Teens anyone here have teens with Aspergers?I am looking for other people dealing with teens and how they are dealing with some of the issues that seem to be harder because of the Aspergers
Guest guest
ME too! Me too! I have a son whos is 14, wont cut his hair, will only wear huge snow boots or flip flops. He is also has screaming rages (directed at me) This is new. I have homeschooled him for 2 yrs. The counselor told me yesterday that if he isnt put in a social enviroment ( regualr school ) he wont be able to function in life without me. He told her that he will make my life hell and do what ever it takes to stay at home and homeschool. OK, so how the heck do I deal with that? His homeschool grades are great, the experience has been all positive accept for the fact he rarely wants to leave the house and hang out with kids. ( Thats an Aspie thing anyhow ) Im in YOungstown, Ohio and so far IM the ONLY family in a 100 mile radius who has this an Aspe child. Its very hard to go this without support. I dont know how to make the right decision for him. I WISH you were close by or that ANYONE here was close by. Guest guest
Oh, how lucky you are. My son absolutely hates school. According to him it is boring and stupid. He hates getting up and the minute he comes home from school he is in his room with the door closed. He barely does school work or study. So far he had been passing everything with grades in the 80's. I truly think school is boring for him...and the noise and social atmosphere gets too much at time. He has long hair and his bangs are now covering his eyes ...he has been refusing to cut it...I think it is his way of hiding from the world. He has some close friends and when they come over I hear him laugh. But he has no outside interests at all and that is what worries me the most. He barely goes anywhere, is never really invited over other people's homes and basically never sleeps over other peoples' homes. He does have 3 good friends who sleep here. j "In the Midst of Difficulty lies Opportunity" Albert Einstein Success is not measured by one's position but by the obstacles one has overcome to obtain that position From: Catcelia <c2cats@...> Sent: Tue, March 22, 2011 11:22:42 PMSubject: ( ) Re: Aspie Teens I have a 15 yr old son in 10th grade. Guest guest
Long hair - my son lets his hair grow until he gets tired of the hassle of washing it. Then he cuts it super short (not quite a buzz) so he doesn't have to get it cut again for a long time. My only rule about his hair is that he keep it clean. I think that you are lucky in that your son has some close friends. I think if my son made any effort then he could have some. I would trade off the high honor grades for a few friends. So I guess the grass is always greener on the other side. Now, he got in trouble do to all the "social drama" and they are the ones who suggest Speech to me. Guest guest
I don't know your situation personally but wondered why a therapist would say he has to go to regular school or else he will never learn to do anything without you? That seems ignorant. Plenty of people homeschool and learn to be independent. I don't think learning independent skills is dependent on being at a school vs. being at home. All our kids seem to struggling with indpendent living skills but I have not seen that the schools do much to improve that problem. Guest guest
thanks to all who have responded. I have 2 teens Aspie , a daughter 17 who goes next week to MEPS trying to get into the Air Force. and my son 16. Both are totally different in their Aspie ways. My son has been the worse for me to handle. Currently he is 16 but mature wise he is 10-13 on any given day. Has no friends because he annoys them like he does us at home. Always thinks he is right so no matter what even if he is dead wrong he does not see it, has always excelled in school until this year 10th grade. As high school has gotten harder , he will not study thinks if he hears the teacher talk about it then to study is pointless. Home work not getting done or gets done and not turned in. At times I feel like giving up. I am a strong advocate for him in school, but if he will not try then pretty hard to advocate for him , yet watching him throw away his grades is hard. It is always the teachers fault, doing math problems is pointless even when the teacher explained to us how math works. you can ground him but it does no good because in his mind he did nothing wrong, you just took his computer or what ever for no reason.
