Guest guest
I don’t know your situation, but my two daughters went thru a “fail to flush” period too but both for different reasons. The oldest (nt) was just being lazy so we told her if we had to flush her poo again, she would have to come flush our poo. This was a very effective approach with her, as the threat alone started her flushing. my youngest who is aspie with sensitivity issues wouldn’t flush because the sound was too loud. I agreed to flush for her until she was older and better able to handle the noise, which she can do now. Regards, melody
Guest guest
My son also dislikes the sound and used to refuse to flush. Now he is usually fine at home but wont flush in public and refuses to go in automatic toilets. My husband accompanies him to the bathroom and flushes after my son clears the stall. He is only six now, but hopefully he learns to cope as he gets older. > > never flushes. His dad is very stressed by this. Clashing anxiety/asperger/add whatever traits. It's driving me insane. Guest guest
Hi, My son has an issue with flushing the toilet. I put up a sign behind the toilet, infront of the toilet, and on the wall by the light switch that says "FLUSH AND WASH". This has helped him remember to flush the toilet and wash his hands afterwards. Guest guest
Our son, now 10.5 yrs, has had trouble remembering to flush for years. Additionally, he still misses his target much of the time. What's worked for us: I put a large sign with bold black letters and a yellow background that said, " FLUSH! " above each toilet in the house. That did improve the flushing percentage. The other problem's been harder. It's like his mind's just always on other things and focusing on where to put his pee just isn't a priority. It's helped some by consistently having HIM clean up all the messes I find. ?? Head's just in the clouds. Tried all other types of positive and negative reinforces as well. If anyone has any other grand ideas, I'm game. Debbie > > never flushes. Guest guest
He he. If I had a fricken dime for every time I've either walked into the bathroom and gagged because of an 8 hour turd sitting in there, or heard, "Who didn't flush the toilet?", or had a child running like a crazy-person screaming that they can't go to the bathroom (either one), because it's "full and stinky",,,,,,,,,I'd be a wealthy gal. Man, it's nasty, isn't it? I don't know who it is. Correction. I know that it's a few of them........at different times. It's disgusting. I grew up with the rule to NOT flush if it was just pee........gag. But they haven't!!!!!!! When you get the answer as to how to make them flush,,,please let me know. Oh - and when someone comes over,,,,,,guess what the whole family knows to do? They immediately run to the bathrooms to make sure they're flushed. Nice. Guest guest
DON'T WORRY I HAVE A SON THAT IS GOING TO BE 7 IN MAY AND WE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH HIM BUT WE ALSO HAVE THE PROBLEM THAT HE HAS TO TAKE ALL OF HIS CLOTHES OFF TO GO TO THE BATHROOM WE HAVE FINALLY GOT HIM TO PEE WITH HIS PANTS ON BUT OTHERWISE HE STRIPS SO WE TRY TO GET IT ALL DONE AT HOME. I THINK IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE SUDDEN NOISE THAT THEY DON'T LIKE. MY SON DIDN'T LIKE IT WHEN HE WAS YOUNGER EITHER. WE FOUND THAT IF YOU LET HIM GO IN THE BIG STALL THEN ITS NOT SO BAD AND THEY DON'T GET SCARED. Guest guest
I agree. we have two girls. the oldest (15) doesnt flush the toilet because shes lazy. our younger (8) the aspie, doesnt flush becasue she just forgets. theres no hope for the older one. but our little one get called back to the bathroom and asked " please flush the toilet when you are done " . sooner or later she will make it part of her routines that " must be done " . the older one will just get an apartment someday with a toilet that is overflowing onto the floor. > > never flushes. Guest guest
No and this is worse than not flushing - sitting down on a wet seat! Argh! I have 3 boys in my house - enough said! And I yell a lot " WHO DID THIS?!?!? " not expecting a real answer. But I often remind them to take better aim, please. PLEASE! Another thing that has helped with my middle ds is he has gotten in the habit of lifting the lid. That has really helped a lot. So if you can get that habit started, it helps with the messy seats. But in this case, the best offense is a good defense. lol. So look first, save yourself. lol. Roxanna " The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. " E. Guest guest
So true, Roxanna. My dear son always dribbles on the seat. So I should reprase my statement, going to the bathroom in my house means wipe seat, flush, pee, flush. Vickie > > > > never flushes. His dad is very stressed by this. Guest guest
Wow , we had this same problem! My middle ds would not use a bathroom without taking everything off first. I mean EVERYTHING. There I would be at Walmart bathroom, putting his sock and shoes back on each time. Somehow, the whole " go to the bathroom " process included " take off all my clothes first. " I don't recall when that stopped either. It slowly did. I just kept up the pep talk each time, " Look, you could do that while wearing your underwear....just pull them down to here.... " and most times he would balk. But eventually we got there. He also would put both feet on the seat and hunch down to go. So it was rather an odd set up altogether! lol. I often pictured him as a 50 yo man, hunching up on the seat, naked. lol. But you know, he eventually caught on. He does ok now and is able to go without being naked first. So hang in there! Guest guest
I agree on this one. My son no asperger's , but he occasionally gets in hurry and doesn't lift the seat all the way and then I get the wet seat. Not a happy Mommy. Guest guest
Dare I admit this without you all thinking I am REALLY weird, as I have said before I only realised that I done anything different to others after my son had issues, when I am at home I always completely undress from the waist down to go to the toilet, socks as well, don't have a reason for doing it just always have. No idea if I got my complete kit off as a child although I do remember my mother shouting at me for things related to the bathroom when I was around 4 or 5. Guest guest
We couldn’t’ get Zak out of pullups until he was 5. He wouldn’t go to the bathroom, except in pull ups. It wasn’t until 2 of his friends came over and peed in the garden that the pull ups came off. It was always such a fight with the bathroom and even though hubbie and I knew there was something different about Zak we didn’t know what until he was about 10 years old. I am constantly telling him about flushing the toilet. I now listen and I hear the peeing, hear the washing of hands, but no flushing. I have to remind him still! It’s just not important to him when he’s playing a computer game for the 4th hour! Guest guest
Oh Lorraine that gave me a chuckle! You never know what you are doing, that you assume everyone else is doing or you haven't even thought about, until you start taking a poll of other peoples behaviors. I once had a psychiatrist tell me a patient had obsessive compulsive disorder because he had to wash his hands when he emptied the trash in the house or he felt dirty. Ha, ha.... of course I do that, and probably a bunch of other people do too. It would be fun to read a book of the percentage of people that do each quirky thing. It would make for a great entertaining read! ( ) Re: toilet flushing Date: Sunday, January 24, 2010, 11:11 PM My son also dislikes the sound and used to refuse to flush.
