Guest guest
I'm looking for a reputable source for a white noise machine. They may be sold under another name. My internet searches so far have turned up products and companies that I am just not feeling confident about. thank you for any help,Melani
Guest guest
Why not just use a fan or a tv turned to a channel not working? We use fans here. Guest guest
I found an indirect noise machine. It's an air cleaner with a HEPA filter by Whirlpool. It has 4 different settings and I use it on high at night time as noise from siblings really bothers my aspie son. It's not quite like a typical fan but does diffuse background noise sufficiently. Guest guest
what price range/quality do you want, there are the very expensive ones like the one at brookstone or the sound oasis or you can get a $15 one from homedics at walmart, target or amazon. babies r us had ones that didnt get loud enough by another brand but we have 2 homedics we use for sleep On Wed, Dec 1, 2010 at 3:46 PM, iamgr8ful <iamgr8ful@...> wrote: I'm looking for a reputable source for a white noise machine. Guest guest
There are a lot of Iphone/Itouch apps for that. Like Whitenoise by TMSoft for $1.99. If one of the apps doesn't cut it, there are others to try.. Amplified speaker/chargers are cheap if you already have one. Refurbished i-touch is $150 from apple. Not cheap, but they're useful. - > > I'm looking for a reputable source for a white noise machine. They may be > sold under another name. Guest guest
Hi Melani, I personally use the Marpac dual level white noise machine and love so much that I ordered two more for my sons. I even take it with me when I travel. I have had the original for over 7 years so it lasts too. You can get at Target.com for around $50. Guest guest
DS doesn't have a smartphone. But, I wonder if this would be a reason to get him one.? We are looking for something to put in his room and use most of the time he is in there. He is extra sensitive to noises, so we thought something like this might help. But it might also come in useful if he can take the white noise with him to certain places. thanks for the suggestions!MOn Wed, Dec 1, 2010 at 4:06 PM, bucaroobonzai2003 <bucaroobonzai2003@...> wrote: There are a lot of Iphone/Itouch apps for that. Guest guest
it is nice to have on your phone for when you forget when out, I have a couple sounds on mine but for full time use I'd want an actual machine or an ipod with a dock so you could use the speakers. Iphone wouldn't be too cost effective since you'd have to pay the extra monthly. We bought ours for sleep so different, bought it when we realised she slept better with the humidifier running. But I forget to turn it off in the morning so the poor things been running for about 8 years straight. Occasionally I get bored and change it from rain to babbling brook (I like the water sound better than white noise but being cheap machines the water and white noise are similiar sounding). It is a must when staying somewhere like a hotel on vacation or shed never sleep. Was so happy I had it when we ended up in the same hotel as a teen hockey team that woke my sister and her kids in the night but we (across the hall) didn't notice On 12/1/10, iamgr8ful <iamgr8ful@...> wrote: > DS doesn't have a smartphone. Guest guest
Price range up to $175 or so.thanks, I'll look into the brands/stores you recommended. We have seen the one in the tone catalog - we just weren't sure how well it worked for an Asperger's person. Guest guest
Our son has a real aversion to lights as well; he keeps his window blinds closed most of the time. And the flickering light of a tv bothers him. (Unless he is watching something he finds educational - then he can watch for up to an hour at a time before leaving the room) I'm not sure about the motion of a fan. Although he has his ceiling fan running nearly constantly. I'll check into it.thank youMelaniOn Wed, Dec 1, 2010 at 3:14 PM, <happybrats3@...> wrote: Why not just use a fan or a tv turned to a channel not working? We use fans here. Guest guest
Does he handle headphones ok? U might consider noise cancelling headphones if he does On 12/1/10, iamgr8ful <iamgr8ful@...> wrote: > Price range up to $175 or so. > thanks, I'll look into the brands/stores you recommended. Guest guest
You can also get headphones that can block sound. I know of some writers/editors who use these to block out distracting background noise at the office.
Guest guest
Thank you to everyone who helped with my question. For now, I have ordered a Marcap dual level white noise machine. We may end up with more than one of these solutions as all 3 of us in the family are rather easily distracted by he noise of others. Guess that's another of those aspie traits DH and I share with our son. Thanks again so much!Melani
