Guest guest
Wow - I had never heard about a possible link between Pitocin and ASD. I did have Pitocin to start contractions, although the team eventually turned it off once they became regular enough. My son was also mildly jaundiced at birth, but not so much that any treatment was required. I will be very interested to hear more about people's experiences with Pitocin! Guest guest
Wow, I had pitocin administered to me while I was in labor. I often wondered if there was a link to pitocin and my son having the Asperger's Syndrome. Where can I find more information on pitocin tampering "with the oxytocin (the "cuddle" hormone) producing ability of a susceptible kid's brain"? Guest guest
We also had Pitocin as a part of our Portland, Oregon birth experience with our daughter. Also had minor jaundice after birth. It's frustrating because everytime something like this hits the news, we as parents go through another bout of grief, pain and regret for something that we had almost no control of. And it's yet another time when we can wonder if we did something wrong. We did our best with the information we had at the time and I feel like we go through this pain on a weekly basis. On the other hand, it's pretty interesting. (Father of E, 8 year old daughter) > > I'm more interested in the effects of Pitocin on susceptible kids. Guest guest
no pitocin here, but jaundice definitely. My daughter had worse jaundice and no pitocin but she doesn't have asperger syndrome. She does have anxiety, ocd and sensory integration dysfunction. > > I'm more interested in the effects of Pitocin on susceptible kids. Guest guest
Interesting. I was induced and my son was jaundiced for my son with AS. I was induced with my middle child dd as well but she was not jaundiced and she has SPD. My youngest child has SPD and a severe speech delay possibly apraxia and he was very slightly jaundiced and no pictocin. It could be anything though as I had the Rhogam shot with all three kids and flu shots while pregnant with my first two but not with my last. > > I'm more interested in the effects of Pitocin on susceptible kids. Guest guest
Three totally natural childbirths--one AS child, two NT children. The youngest was jaundiced but is NT. I'm participating in a study of pregnant moms who have a child on the spectrum--there are five sites in a few different parts of the country. If anyone else is pg or planning a pregnancy, check it out. I hope this study will give us all some good leads on causes. http://www.earlistudy.org/ in PA
Guest guest
HI there, I never had pitocin w/ my AS Bipolar son, and only a 1/2 dose of a pain mngmt drug called Nubein (sp?) He was jaundice for a couple days which good old sunshine took care of. With my daughter on the otherhand I was induced and had 8 hours of pitocin and she was not jaundice one bit and is neurological typical. I am a strong believer in genes. We have several bipolars in our family and myself and my mother suffer from sensory issues. However this seems to be a very interesting thread and I look forword to hearing more about the piticon/aspergers connection. > > I'm more interested in the effects of Pitocin on susceptible kids. Guest guest
I suffer from the what ifs guilt too. Things like this though it helps to have many kids for comparison though. #1 i received the max dosage of pitocin though only for about 6 hrs total, i also received staydol and an epidural, born with cord around her neck twice. No juandice, but also not breastfed. She ended up nt except that she is highly gifted. #2 pitocin for 7 hrs, epidural, no juandice, breastfed, dx hfa. #3 pitocin for not sure how long, long (for me, but only 20 mins) delivery, epidural (with b/p drop), no juandice, breastfed, nt and highly gifted. #4 no pitocin, no epidural, slight bili elevation but not enough to be dx juandice, breastfed. Severe articulation delay, possible pdd-nos?. #5 no pit, no epidural, again slight elevation but not enough to be juandice, breastfed. So far (shes only 2) nt and pretty smart. #6 pitocin, i received epidural but she didnt (didnt hit my blood stream until many minutes after she was born), mild juandice, breastfed, only 2 months old. So i have asd and nt that have had elevated bili. I have asd and nt who've received pit and/or epi. So there is no dicernable differences On 10/13/10, bridget <beanniferj@...> wrote: > Wow - I had never heard about a possible link between Pitocin and ASD.
