Guest guest
There are lots of folks on this site who have children that have been through this. I am one of them! My son was diagnosed at age 5 and is about to go into his 5th surgery (which was supposed to be last week but the little bugger went and got himself some walking pneumonia, so it's postponed to 30-Nov.) There's lots of info here if you're willing to spend some time reading! I think you can search -- try the words " son " , " child " -- that sort of thing. I know you will find some information that will help you. Also look under " Files " over on the left. Good luck to you and your son! Guest guest
-Hi dee, My 6 yr old son just went through surgery to get his cholesteatoma removed 2 weeks ago. He has done awesome actually, better then I thought. He was ready to play soccer after 3 days, which of course I couldn't let him. I had total faith in his surgeon for one, that helps alot I think. He was in surgery for almost 6 hours and they did have to remove all the bones but will reconstuct in 6 months if the c'toma hasn't returned. He may have lost some hearing but has no facial droops, this can also happen and even though they had to cut through the taste bud nerve, he hasn't complained much of things tasting funny. Guess he will get that back his surgeon said in a few months. So even though there are some horror stories out there and not that our situation is over yet but the first surgery went well and my little boy seems to be ok through it all . If you have any questions feel free to ask, like I said I'm still going through it all but so far my sons experience hasn't been to bad or as bad as I guess some peoples have been. All I'm doing for him now is drops twice a day for 2 weeks to dissolve the gelform which was left in his ear canal to allow healing. And his incision has pretty much healed behind his ear, just itches some he says. So good luck to you but make sure that they remove your sons as soon as they can , these things can cause alot of damage . all the best, -- In cholesteatoma , Pam Saunders <pampers420@...> wrote: > > Im so sorry about your son.I had,or maybe even have,A cholesteatoma.I have a doctors appontment this friday so i wont know till then. The best advice I can give you is just make sure that whoever performs the surgery is an experienced doctor.Make sure to ask him how many c-tomas he has removed. The better doctor you have the better your sons ear will be.This is what I would have done different.I think if I would have had a more experienced doctor perform my surgery I wouldnt have as many problems as I have now.My love and prayers are with your son. Please keep me posted on how everything goes. > Smiles,Pamela > > > my son > > hi, > i am new on this site and have found everyones messages very helpful > but i was wondering if there is anyone who has had a child go through > this. Guest guest
I was born with both hips out of socket and at 10 was told I had P and PA. I do believe that my out of socket birth hips caused the PA in my body to start at birth instead of later in my life. I would bet your son's hip problems caused his PA to come to the surface sooner than later too. I hope your son starts to feel better soon. Good luck. You are welcome to see our story at www.caringbridge.org/visit/alexsmith Read My Story. My son is doing SubQ gammaglobulin and it has made a tremendous difference in his life. He actually HAS one now! LOL! @...: ruley3@...: Fri, 2 May 2008 20:10:14 +0000Subject: My son Hello everyone I am hoping to soak in as much info as possible from your group! My son just turned 4yrs old and he is the most sickly little fella! He catches everything and he has GI issues(weighing in at a whopping 30 lbs) chronic ear infections recurring staph in his lymph node and teeny tonsils(as the Dr pointed out Wed) His IGg levels are very low and he had labs to test the sub levels on Wed... So does this sound like any of your kiddos. Guest guest
Welcome April, Sounds like you are the track to getting a diagnosis. That's the first (and sometimes the hardest step). Sounds like you are headed to a diagnosis of Primary Immune Deficiency. So, I highly recommend that you contact the Immune Deficiency Foundation and ask them to send you as much information as possible to help you start your education of the immune system. Specifically you will want the Patient and Family Handbook and the children's book " My Immune System " . You can also register for their newsletter so that you get all the updates on local conferences and current research. All of this is free to you. You simply need to call 1-800-296-4433. Secondly, you are in a great group. We've all been, done that. God bless you in your journey. Let us know when you have questions. Guest guest
April ! Hi my name is April also... I hate to have to ask but what kind of GI issues? The reason I ask is the things you are listing can come from more then one thing but hte fact you mention GI it makes me think of one of my sons who has SDS....Shwachman Diamond Syndrome.. it is a multi organ bone marrow failure syndrome... it started as major noticable with the GI issues, but looking back he had alot of infections too... if you want more info i can get it for you, but it might be somehting to consider at least ruling out... has he ever had any low white blood counts? red blood counts? or neutropils? any platelets? these are some of the things that can and are used to make the DX of SDS, but mainly the neutropenia...
