Guest guest
Hi, my name is , and my 6 year old son has just been diagnosed with Asperger's. Its been very pain-staking, and I had to demand that he be evaluated for this disease. He went through several failed ADHD courses of treatment. I knew in my gut that ADHD wasn't the only issue. I believe my husband also has Asperger's too, right now, he is being treated for bi-polar. Any comments, advice or anything anyone wants to share would be greatly appreciated. I did get the diagnosis for him but we haven't started and forms of treatment because the doctor was pretty unfamiliar with this and wanted to consult some " experts " as to a course of treatment. This is not my first go round with rare disorders, my youngest son and I have Osteogenisis Imperfecta (brittle bone disease), I have pioneered many experimental and contraversial, yet sucessful treatments for him, and I am prepared to do the same for my little Asperger's baby!!!! Lowery mom to Caden age 6 Aspergers and Keagen 3 Osteogenisis Imperfecta type 1- 20+ fractures
Guest guest
Hi Kim! Sounds like your family has been through a lot. My family all has Chronic Lyme, I have bipolar 1 and my daughter has Asperger's now after being diagnosed at 2 with pddnos and she has Lyme from birth (which we think triggered her Asperger's. Bipolar and autism spectrum disorders have been linked in families. She is on gluten free casein free diet and has been in a special preschool since 3. She will be entering a typical kindergarten in the fall but with spec ed services to help with social skills mainly. The " treatment " would likely be determined after your son has a psychoeducational profile by a psychologist or sees a developmental pediatrician. He will probably need an IEP and will need social skills services via special ed. There are some great books out there about Asperger's.. the first one I recommend is: a parent's guide to asperger syndrome..
