Guest guest
I wanted to ask if anyone has ever seen such sensory behaviors in their child and how did you deal with it? I have a preschooler who has been laying on the floor and pumping his hips into the floor, I have also seen him do this on his bed. I have just been trying to distract him. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for your input.
Guest guest
My daughter has been doing that for a long time. I've just been calling it her " private time " and make her go to her room and do it. It's a sensory experience just like anything else but it's one that just can't be done in public. I'm sure not to get angry but insist that it be done in her room. Guest guest
My daughter is 8 and still does it. At this point I don't know if it is sensual or otherwise. My husband used to do this to relieve stress when he was young. My daughter usually did it while watching movies. About a year ago I told her that it was private and to only do it in bed. I catch her from time to time in the living room. > > I wanted to ask if anyone has ever seen such sensory behaviors in their child and how did you deal with it? Guest guest
I used to be friends with someone whose NT little boy did this. He was about 3-4 years old. Her older child has asperger syndrome. I lost track of these folks when they moved. She was the first person I knew who had a child with asperger syndrome. I knew her a couple of years before was diagnosed then when he was dx'd I hadn't seen her for a while but I looked for her and finally found her. I saw her outside of an Einstein Bagel and we exchanged numbers. Then she moved. Anyway, she tried to ignore the behavior though I know when he did it when we were over it embarrassed her a little bit. I agree it's a sensory thing. Kids figure out things that feel good and do them, they explore their own bodies as soon as they have control of moving around and some of it will involve parts of the body that we'd prefer not to see them exploring but it's normal. I think asking them to do the behavior in private is a good idea but I expect ignoring it as much as possible is fine too. If a child has social skill issues then eventually sending them to the privacy of their own room will probably be necessary but in a toddler/preschooler I think maybe I'd ignore it. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your replies. My husband is convinced that it has to do with a bad bacterial balance and yeast overgrowth in his system causing sensory issues. We're working on nutrition as well. Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. > > I wanted to ask if anyone has ever seen such sensory behaviors in their child and how did you deal with it?
