Guest guest
I think we've all had 2 switch on days. There is so much that happens on the first day and so much change from day 1 to day 2. A second switch on day allows our brains to settle in just a bit so that the audie can give us several maps to try out over the next few weeks. Congratulations! I was diagnosed for the first time in 1971 as having a hearing loss, but not until 1978 as having a more significant loss. I worked for 17 years (until 1989) as an underground coal miner, so most of my loss is noise induced. I did find out a few years ago, that a couple of my siblings back in the UK, were deaf too, so there was a history of deafness on my mothers side. So, putting the two things together I became very deaf over the years. I have worn two hearing aids since 1978 and was never one of these people that chuck them in the draw and dont wear them, I wore mine every day. This I am told, could possibly work in my favour now, by having kept the brain stimulated. The cochlear implant team expect a good outcome for me. I joined this group to try and learn something about what to expect and to gauge other peoples progress and to pass on my own experiences to maybe help someone else. I suppose stage one is the implant operation itself, that went absolutely, unbelievably well. Pain for an hour after getting out of surgery and no pain to talk about, since. I spent one night in hospital. Its still less than 3 days since my op, so its early days for me. Thanks for sharing your daughters experiences with me. I hope that she keeps on getting better and better. Ted F. > > ___________________________ > > A.Weinzapfel >

Guest guest
Hi I am new to this as well so I am assuming when I reply to you it is going to everyone??? Anyway, I have been off of synthroid for 9 yrs. and on all natural remedies since, I have felt great.......until I got pregnant, miscarried, and now my thyroid has not been the same and I have a goiter. I am seeking alternative help because I refuse to be on a synthetic drug for the rest of my life. I am currently taking " dried freeze thyroid tissues " from cows in New Zealand. I also take a supplement called " rev it up " which you can find on Dr. Dane's website. I am doing acupuncture, chiropractice, zinc, calcium, sea vegetable, and yoga!!! It's crazy I know but I can't see going western with this. Like I said, all of this was completely helping me until I got pregnant and now I am not and can not get my gland to go back the way it was. I wish you luck and I am hoping I can find some holistic help on this site. :0) michelle_poelsterl <michelle_poelsterl@...> wrote: Hi my name is and I am new to this group. Guest guest
there are two problems with conventional thyroid treatment that keep us sick---TSH and T4 meds. You will need proper treatment. Guest guest
armour worries me because it comes from a pig and they are unfortunately very toxic. They do not have to be but because the animals are not treated well and pigs do not sweat they become toxix. Unless ofcourse they are now using pigs from other countries, I do not know. I lost my weight from glandular tissue from cows and " rev it up " metabolizer. Unfortanetly I am dtuck with this goiter ever since I was pregnant. Guest guest
HI , Apart from your goitre do you have other symptoms? I was just like you several years ago - ill and wanting to stay completely away from drugs and western medicine. I had been vegetarian for most of my life and in good health. At 24 I had a daughter born with life threatening heart and lung disease. I suspect that I was low thyroid and her complications were a direct result of this. I can only say this in hindsight however - but now that I am used to how thyroid symptoms look and feel I would say with certainty that this is what happened. My feeling is that without extreme stress (like pregnancy, divorce, money issues etc) my thyroid copes OK but otherwise it dose not - and no amount of holistic lifestyle made any difference to this. I was very strict with my diet and lifestyle choices in my 20's and 30's. I was happy and loved my way of life - But I have concluded that if a natural lifestyle could have got my thyroid in balance then it would have happened in all those years! So I have had to change my thinking. I still do not take drugs but I have made my peace with bio-identical hormones. They are exactly the same as your body produces - I react badly to nearly every drug I have ever taken but the hormones do not effect me badly. I tried Armour for awhile and like you I am not so happy taking animal hormones - and in any case I seem to do better on the synthetic combination of T4 and time release T3. These are bio-identical and made in a lab. My impression from what you have said so far is if your choices have not made you well to date under the more extreme circumstances like a pregnancy, they are not likely to in the future. Secondly I would caution you about getting pregnant again with your thyroid function so poor - your baby could end up sick. I am guessing that because you are still working our twice a day you are not too ill yet - many if not most of us here are too exhausted to work out at all. You don't want to get that way! I have taken the best natural vitamins and supplements for years as well as a good organic diet, and while I wouldn't be without any of this it didn't fix my thyroid. I am now back on the road to health because I take thyroid hormones and I take a lot of them. I also take melatonin, progesterone and testosterone - all bio-identical - it is all helping enormously. I was and still am very sceptical of western medicine - but when my daughter received life saving surgery at 6 months old - I was forced to acknowledge that western medicine does have a good side - now I use it to help me where it can and then I apply my own intelligence to how I go about healing myself. I hope this is helpful to you - you will get lots of good info on this board and much of it holistic but I can't in good faith tell you that in your situation you'll get better without hormones. Regards, Kerry Re: Introducing myself Hi I am new to this as well so I am assuming when I reply to you it is going to everyone??? Guest guest
Hello thanks for your story and sorry to hear about your daughter. I only feel good when I take the natural stuff. I tried synthroid again recently and could not workout, I was too tired, my constipation came back, and I was depressed and irritable. I went back on the natural and started the acupuncture and chiropractic and yoga and once again feel like myself. I will have to stay with what works best for me and taking a synthetic with ingredients that have been known to be in the top 5 cancer causing list, will never be it. I am willing to go on synthroid if I choose to try and have a baby and the reason why is so that my levels can be properly monitered throughout the pregnancy but as long as I am not trying to get pregnant I will stay as natural as I can. Thanks again. - Oh, and no since I am back on the glandular tissues I have no other symptoms, when I was back on the synthroid I had all the symptoms (constipation, dry everything, moodiness, brain fog, etc...the goiter came after the pregnancy) Kerry Ann Faithfull <kerry@...> wrote: HI , Apart from your goitre do you have other symptoms? Guest guest
Thanks - she's grown up now. if the goitre is your only issue then you are probably right to try to shrink it naturally - have you tried iodine? By the way I wasn't aware of ingredients in the " top 5 cancer causing list " in bio-identical hormones - can you say what they are? Synthroid is just one brand and it is known to cause problems - some speculate because of the binders - I don't take it so can't comment. But if you do have to take hormone in the future you should probably try another brand since you react to it so badly. Something that makes you that sick simply could not be doing your thyroid any good at all. IMO I'm sorry of I misunderstood the severity of your situation - if I had realised you are basically well I wouldn't have bothered you with my life story - my mistake. Guest guest
Don't apologize, your life story was appreciated and so was your information. It has been yrs. since I researched synthroid but 9 yrs ago when I took myself off of it I know that one of the main ingredients is talc, which I have read and learned many times is one of the top 5 cancer causers, but I'm sure everyone can list their own top 5. Where can I get the iodine? Last time I checked my TSH it was 11.8 and that was when I was 2 months pregnant, have not checked it since March. I am going to get it checked in a few weeks to see if it went back down to the 4.5 it was at before the pregnancy. I'm sorry, did you mention what you are taking? Maybe I will suggest something other than synthroid when I think about getting pregnant again. Have a nice weekend and thanks in advance for any info..... IMO I'm sorry of I misunderstood the severity of your situation - if I had realised you are basically well I wouldn't have bothered you with my life story - my mistake. I wish you well, Kerry Re: Introducing myself Hi I am new to this as well so I am assuming when I reply to you it is going to everyone??? Guest guest
I have been on so many different doses of synthroid between ages 17 and 25 and then again this past yr. Synthroid is not an option for me unless I am pregnant and only because I will need to monitor it and know whether to increase or decrease doses which is not somehthing you can do with natural glandular tissue. I know that Talc used to be one of the main ingredients yrs. ago, I do not know the main ingredients anymore because I do not study synthroid like I used to. All I know is that for about 8 yrs. I took only natural remedies after being on synthroid for 7 years and I felt the best on the natural stuff. Since my short pregnancy everything has changed and now I am trying to find my balance. That is patent nonsense. At the worst imaginable, talc has unknown but extremely mild carcinogenicity, but the evidence even for that is not convincing and efforts to have it classed as dangerous have been met with strong opposition from experts in the field. Talc has been associated with an increased risk of lung cancer when chronically inhaled. However, just about anything, any sort of dust, even cotton fibers, will increase the risk of lung cancer when inhaled. Yet, we don't find a ban on underwear or cotton shirts. I tell my students, that if something is not nitrogen, oxygen, or water vapor, it probably will cause problems if chronically inhaled. However, that doesn't make it a carcinogen. The risk of uterine cancer from talc is still being hotly debated. Again, the only marginal data is from _substantial_ _chronic_ exposure applied externally to the genitals, not taken internally. What is more, talc is the sixth of the _inert_ ingredients in Synthroid. That means there is barely a trace there, nowhere near the levels of exposure that are still quite controversial. The sugar content is more of a hazard. There are hundreds of true carcinogens out there, many in our foods, that deserve more attention than talc. http://www.luzenac.com/pdf/epidemio/WEHNER%202002.pdf Chuck
Guest guest
PLEASE this is totally ridiculous. you can monitor yourself just fine on Armour, it is a USP med. It is not advisable to dose to tests anyway, you treat the symptoms. PLEASE Do you understand that millions of women have had healthy pregnancies on Armour? I would want Armour over $inthroid while pregnant to ensure the best results. Guest guest
COOL. good to know. However, synthroid will never be an option for me, however it is good to know that it is not as bad as I have read. I hope your stats are correct. I will stay on natural until I decide to try to conceive and at that time I will inquire more about armour, thanks Gracia! Chuck B <gumboyaya@...> wrote: , You wrote: >... Guest guest
p.s. I agree to the carcinogens in our food, which is why I am impossible to dine with. I eat 90% organic and try to only eat my own cooked food. I stay very clear of animal and their by products, not for thyroid reasons but for all around well being. Once again, I appreciate all of your info, Chuck, but I will not go the synthroid direction ever again. I am quite content with what I am doing and will look into other things when I decide to conceive. Thank you and everyone else for your shared stories and information. Some people do have allergic or sensitivity type reactions to the inert ingredients in it or its generics, particularly to the food colorings, but your symptoms sound more like under-medication. And, because of the feedback loop that manages T4 in the body, you can have a momentary but paradoxical DECREASE in the adverse effects when you stop the meds. This can contribute to the illusion that the meds are causing the symptoms rather than relieving them. However, this kind of oscillation only happens when you still have at least some partial thyroid function. In that case, other types of supplements might also have a beneficial effect, as you seem to have experienced. Most of us on the list have substantial if not total thyroid loss, so we really need the hormone replacement. If your partial condition is due to an autoimmune attack (Hashimoto's) it could well progress until the thyroid is completely gone. In that case, I hope you won't hesitate to get one of the replacements, whether Armour or synthetic T4. The synthetics, incidentally, are bio-identical. They are not just chemicals that mimic the action of natural T4 or T3 (in Cytomel), they are the same molecule, just produced in a lab, rather than in an animal. As we have discussed here before, the only truly " natural " thyroid medication would require injection of a personally balanced ratio of T4, T3, T2, and T1, directly into the blood stream. Eating dessicated animal glands, with arbitrary ratios of these components, is every bit as unnatural as taking a synthetic, although BOTH can work. If we are going to distinguish between them, it should be on the basis of which works best for each individual, but not on which is " natural. " Some of us do not seem to need the T3 at all. Some need less T3 than Armour provides; some seem to need more. Best, Chuck

Guest guest
I'm talking about animals being loaded with antibiotics, bovine hormone and diseased from birth until they land on your plate. That, howver is for another website. I do not roast, broil, or fry, but thanks for the input. Chuck B <gumboyaya@...> wrote: , You wrote: > p.s.
