Guest guest
Hi , I am also in the evaluation/assessment stage. We started with the school district, because we wanted to have a plan for the fall (and it's free and available to preschoolers), but it was recommended that we have a private evaluation done, too. I tried to go through insurance, but couldn't find a child psychologist in-network who specifically works with young kids to diagnose ASD (my daughter is 5). So I got a name from another mom I met and we're working with insurance to try to have them accept her. Lastly, I took my daughter to a local place for a speech and OT evaluation - they won't give us a diagnosis, but they did make goals for her and we've started some therapy sessions there. I figure whatever the source of her problems, she would benefit from the therapies regardless. Good luck, it seems like there are a few different ways to figure this out. I think you'll find this group very helpful - I certainly am. Guest guest
Hi , This sounds fairly typical to me. My son was first referred from his pediatrician to a Psycologist. We then went to a Child Developement Clinic and had some test done by their team. Later when our Psychiatrist at that clinic left his practice we were referred to the Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Department where they performed a Neuropsycological test which seams to be the " cadilac " of tests for determining developemental disabilities. Don't get discouraged. I know it is frustrating but you wouldn't want someone to spend 5 minutes with your child and stamp them with a disorder. All the tests when done will paint a very good picture of where your childs deficits and strengths are. Guest guest
We saw a pediatric pysychol and it was confirmed. Had a dx after 2 weeks. Told the school and had all paperwork faxed to it. They alerted CESA 6 and had an autism consultant do an "in-house" eval of him to get specifics. Went really quick with us. Ahhhhh, Laughter................
