It could be that he is very lonely and has a rich fantasy life to feel connected. What part started in his teens? Autism and AS start in the first few years. It is so hard to figure out, you may want to look at the symptoms of schzophenia. And the personality disorder sczoid affective personality disorder. Pam > > Hello, you all. I just joined after finding out about this forum from a friend of mine. It sparked my interest, with a 14 year old dx'ed HFA. He's a great boy, very compassionate, loves building and constructing things, and claims to have an " emotional " connection with water. > > I'm a bit curious as to some of his perceptions. He is a loner and has no desire for friendships. He mostly sits by himself and does things, often talking to himself for hours on end in his room. > > I was kind of curious about him talking to himself so much. It is as if he holds conversations with himself, asks questions and answers them. I asked him once why he does this? He says, " Because I am making attempts to communicate with my environment. " I found this very strange. > > He claims to have an innate connection with space. He claims that he asks his environment a question and answers as if the environment talks back. I do not in any way understand this. He claims he feels personal connections to the shapes of objects, lines in the walls, etc.. And he appears to be " emotionally " connected to water, including the word " water. " He carries it wherever he goes. And he is deeply invested in watching water, playing in it, etc. > > I am more concerned that he is forgoing most social contact because of this. It started way before his teen years. I thought it was like a phase, but it has just gotten more and more deep with him. I suspect he will likely end up in some sort of water-related job in the future, maybe even something with construction or something. I don't know. He loves legos and building things, too. > > Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this with their sons or daughters? >
