Guest guest
I am going to re-post this, still have questions. We have struggled with ADHD with my 11 year old son Ben since he was 6. He is classic ADHD but still there has been more to it. We have been in private school and we fought the system all the way. We recently asked for a consult to a devlopmental Pediatritian and Devlopmental Psychologist The Pediatritian has mentioned Aspergers and gave me a book to look at while they did testing. OH MY GOSH! This was may son. It made me cry with examples given that the teachers had been trying to say he " chooses no to do " He was also diagnosed with anxiety disorder. He is bright and can make the grades with guidance. We are going to public school next year. Never done an IEP. Psychologist has a list of needed things in classroom such as sitting in fron,t needing some tests orally and for some reason he cannot comprehend what is on the blackboard to the paper on his desk so he will need to have things written. He knows about his ADHD and I feel we should include him in anything that is done. Any suggestions?
Guest guest
You mean do we have suggestions about how to explain this to your son? It really depends on your son. I would address anxiety issues first. How will the anxiety manifest at school? Will he be nervous to go to school. What works best for my daughter is gradual exposure to anything new. Since the school is going to be new. I would gradually have him meet a " go to person " perhaps the school counselor or home room teacher ...he could eat in the cafteria with you or an assigned buddy. I would go into the school after school hours if possible (some schools have clubs etc after school and they are opened). and look around, use the bathroom etc. Anything to expose your son to the setting gradually will help with an anxious AS child. There is so much to talk about with the IEP I don't know where to start. best of luck, Pam - In , " " <bensmommy2000@...> wrote: > > I am going to re-post this, still have questions.
